For those who have asked, we will be running the old-fashioned everyone-runs-numerically-except-those-who-are-marshaling system.
We will use the run-group system at some events later this year.

Thanks to everyone who braved the humid, rainy conditions yesterday to get in some seat time. It's always great to see all the old faces and a good handful of new ones too, especially those who can't stop smiling. Looks like there's some rust to shake off (cough, Taylor setting up the timing beams, cough) and lots of new mods (or cars) to learn, which should make for a very exciting season. Thankfully some construction company left a porta-potty there, lunch was an added bonus (and produced less garbage too!), the VIPs had a great battle going for the day too. Special thanks to Scion and All About Imports for getting the VIP rocketship in running mode for the day.
An extra treat was seeing more and more children around who were quite keen on riding along and already seem to be planning for the day they can compete themselves.
It's also a really good thing the event went as smoothly as it did, because as we were packing up the trailer at the end the skies really opened up. For those of you who ran in the Hershey Centre days, a longer event would have looked like this:

See everyone (and more) in two weeks! Results will be up in a few days.

Awesome to see all the regulars again! I had a blast, despite my terrible, terrible performance. Like my car, I seem to have accumulated a thick layer of rust over the winter. Will need a big hammer and some heat to shake that off :P
Having lunch at the event is such a great idea!
Dave's Levin sounds AMAZING!
Can we start a new class for power wheels for the kids? 10% plastic tire bonus.

Great day!
The course was real interesting, that hard left after the slalom loop-around was a lot tighter than first thought. First time winning the class for me... what a feeling.
The food was great, it's real nice to be able to have lunch and hang out with everybody instead of running around with staggered lunch times.
I'll have my videos up in a few days.

Louis, did you need a copy of the grid list for your videos? I totally spaced on that during registration and when Val asked at the end of the day I had already packed up the computer so he just took the marshal list from the pole.
If you need one, let me know and I'll email it to ya.

It was a great event! I had tonnes of fun sucking! I had even more fun packing up in the rain for 45 minutes. Thanks to the organizers for an amazing day. I'm so glad I'm back this year. Maybe next race I'll be a bit more competitive. I said this was a development year for me so I'm sticking to that excuse. My fun runs actually felt so much better than my real ones. If I say I did 55 seconds can that be my best time for the day? :)
Having lunch there was great too!
See everyone in the races in June.

My favorite conditions for autoslalom. Wet, but without enough rain to need an umbrella or have the roof up.
I had much fun. Great to see all those faces again. Got to pick some good fights too. Great rematch with the Orange Protege after HADA last week. Super close finish. :)
Thanks guys!

Saturday was awsome!!
Great to see everyone back out.
Weather suited me fine was quicker in the wet then when it started to dry out everyone else got faster (that sucked) but very happy with the car & my overall performance for the day.
Having had the car pulled apart for the better part of 7 months & not having any mechanical or electrical issues at the 1st event was an added bonus.
For sure I'll be at the next event!

Hey MSOC, might I suggest seeking a sponsorship deal from a local tow truck company. Back when we ran in Woodstock the tow truck company actually pitched the idea to us the first time we called them.

Ahh but in all seriousness...
I don't know about everyone else but I was in 2nd the whole time.
Only so much you can do considering the location of 2 of the 3 vehicles, the forecast and some standing water. *shrug* I thought I did a pretty good job. But you can only please so many people...especially those who weren't even there!
Thanks for the support!

Taylor, that was a great course! Really frustrating to get right (which I never did) but a lot of fun as is the tradition at PITL.
Funny how one of the parked cars created an actual blind corner. I was looking ahead but couldn't see the next gate as the line of sight was blocked by the parked truck. No surprised that I overcooked that corner multiple times :P

No problem,I actually posted that for you in fact.
I only watched the miata vid,he was in 1st gear for everything but a few seconds and a miata being about the fastest you'll get on a tight course.....
I'd LOVE to support the club, hard to want to spend 6 hours towing in the truck to run a course like that however.
Just keepin' it real, want more people open up the courses.
Taylor
05-17-2011, 06:12 PM
Every course will present it's own challenges for various cars and their gearing.
Yes, that driver does keep the car largely in first for the 2nd half. I don't know the miata well but on the sound, on audio and video alone I probably would have tried 2nd myself but Val's been around, I'm sure that was the quickest way around for him. Having said that, the conditions did result in some greasy conditions at various times of the day. Most folks that day were also on streets.
Again due to the forecast for 15-20mm of rain (80% said Weather Channel.. despite it only actually raining during the last run) anything quick had to be in a straight line and approaches around the parked vehicles had to result in a "whoops" trajectory AWAY from said parked cars. Usually this is not an issue.. we got unlucky but due to the forecast, their presence probably didn't change a whole lot.
Ultimately we don't really expect people to drive 6 hours to attend our events (but would be thrilled to see it happen). We're a club series, with club classifications.
I think it was mentioned last year I hit 91 on one section (not at the start) needing to hit 3rd (which in my car is saying something). Still speed can't be the only determining factor in a good or acceptable course.
Anyhow when I'm involved I try to mix up the course design as much as possible.. all you can really count on is where we start, end and where the slalom goes (and yet, despite the slalom almost always being there.. people STILL manage to hit the cones.. so practice makes perfect I guess).
Sometimes there's a lot of cones and sometimes there's just a bunch of singles and a leaner.
Yes.. this one was rather controled.. again, by design. A few Veteran drivers commented to me after the first run that it was a good course and flowed well. I was rather pleased when I got out of the car the first time too. I had feared the back may have been a little tight but I had left it open just enough that if you took the right line it was good. Still, I'd have done more in the second half but knew (again) with the forecast and how the front of the course was designed, we couldn't add another 10-15 seconds on the second half.
Anyhow... if you know of a bigger lot in the GTA, you let us know.

Yeah.... I struggled to find a way to pull the front off such that we would approach the truck safely and cross over. That was really the only responsible way to do it. But yes, it didn't result in good visuals for navigating those couple gates.
All the more reason to focus on approach and gate location when walking the course. 1 walk to find your way, 2nd walk to shoot the $#!t and 3rd for the driver. :)

Take out the tight stuff and make it a 2 lapper.:D
Yeah I see what your working with for a lot,I really really want to make it to a pitl with the new car but with all the effort to build it and the costs to drag it anywhere these days I need to see promise of a course worthy of the effort/$$(money for me to get there, not event cost).
If I got to stay in bed untill 8(instead of getting up at 4am like I need to)and drive around the corner I'd be there for sure.
Peace brother.;)
I liked the course given the compromise of possible bad weather and an abundance of parked vehicles. The blind corners made it interesting on my first run. I hadn't quite thought about that factor on the walk through and it caught me out at speed.
I had fun and the course was safe so no complaint from me. Any failure is due the nut behind the wheel requiring some tightening. Some 15" wheels would have helped me out.

Great flowing course and I liked the Esses in the second half. One small gripe would be that the final corner was extremely bumpy for our higher sprung car (maybe fit in a bus stop again in that section?).
Oh, and I fully support Taylor's move to B-stock :)

I'm pretty sure we'd be willing to lend you our new rain setup for another shot at FTD (not that it couldn't ever happen against the S2000), but the tires only have a 280 treadwear rating so they may not be of much benefit.
