2 years ago I attached a camera to my passanger seat and filmed some solo2 events. The picture was good but for some reason it did not capture the speed.
Where is the best place to mount a camera to produce a fast paste illusion?
Now that I have racing seats in the car I longer can mount my camera to the seat. I have seen some cars with camera mounted on the hood using stickypods. what are your opinions on stickypods and mounting the camera on the hood of the car?
this is a sample video clip from 2 years ago. (dont mind my key chain and noisy Toyos  )

Front bumper if you can pull it off. With a remote (And fairly cheap) bullet camera you can get the sensation of speed quite handily.
Here's a video I took last year from the bumper of my Civic, and I'm by no means fast. :)

(No sound, didn't have a mic hooked up)
This was done with a 380line CCD camera (http://spoon.org/civic/pics/Camera.jpg) which was $115 off eBay and a clamping camera mount. I've never used a suction mount but I don't know that I'd ever trust a ~$1000 DV cam mounted anywhere outside the car. If I write off the bullet camera I'm not out that much at the end of the day.
Have a look in http://pics.spoon.org/Cars/ASCC-SoloII-08-31-2003-Video/ for examples of the camera hooked up in some other locations.

A little trick: try zooming in a little closer than realtime. That way the frame is filled with the right in front of you action rather than the peripheral scenery....

That look pretty cool. You could make a great video with a couple of these editied together. What did you use to record the video storage wise? A laptop?

I did a video with some footage I had kicking around. Not the best but its the first time I've ever played with video editing software.

I used a DV cam basically as a VCR. The camera has a regular video output so you run it to the camcorder in VTR mode and voila. Unfortunately thats why it doesn't have sound since most cameras won't use the internal mics or even the microphone input in VTR mode so I have to get a high-gain mic I can plug into the audio input. I have lots of plans for video this year.

Drive faster.... :D I'm sorry I couldn't resist. I often speed in car shots up about 5 to 15% in th editing. Although I usually do this to change timing to match the music. As a general guide line as long as the sound still seem realistic so will the visual.
Oh and my mount uses the child safety seat anchors: http://www.cockyracingguy.com/pictures/Prelude/Tech%20Stuff/cameramount-01.jpg Although I wish it was closer to me so I could zoom out more and get a better perspective.

Alternatively, you can just use your video editor to speed up the video by x%.
