Some rally guys use them in the states, when they do track days and stuff.

I think the problem you will find, is that they are not DOT Approved.

I have run that exact tire you have pictured (Silverstone S575 Tarmac Rallye Tyre) in several autocross events and 1 lapping day at Shannonville. They are very good for autocross with just one problem: they are not DOT approved, which means for some series that you must run in the modified class. But if you just want to use them for lapping days, you'll never find anything better! Once these tires get some heat into them, they can outperform pretty much any other set of rubber available. My day at Shannonville where I ran these, was the first time I had ever been on a track, and I was easily outrunning some far more powerful cars than mine (some of which were even running on various other r-compounds). You just have to remember to do 1 or 2 laps before really pushing it. I went out after having rested for about 1/2 an hour, and tried to corner at the same speed I had before stopping, and "Oops!" the back end got a little loose on me. I forgot they needed to re-heat up again. If you're just looking for a set for fun, I'd recommend these any day! Because they are designed for rally, they are very easy to drive. They work well at almost any slip angle, and give outstanding feedback to the driver on the amount of available traction.

As a matter of fact, I still have my set including rims, and am looking to sell them if you're interested. They've only been used for about 5 or 6 autox events, and 1 lapping day. So they are still in like-new condition, about 80-90% tread still remaining. Email me if you're interested.

Actually the problem isn't that you have to run in Modified class. The problem is that CASC rules stipulate that any car not on DOT tires must have roll over protection (ie a roll bar). Any club failing to inforce this is in violation of their insurance.
