Despite our jokes, it looks like there will be a Toyota-Pirelli series this year with the Echo hatchbacks... I assume it's a take-off on the Japanese series. Here's where I found it:

Sounds interesting. If only I could read French a bit better. :(

It doesn't say a whole lot but looks like seven events running with the FAQ regional series (their 2004 schedule is not posted yet) and maybe a couple more
the cars look mostly stock - the usual sealed engines/ecu etc, roll cages / safety equipment - spec tires wet/dry, brake bads. perf exhaust.
It says the first 20 cars are $20,000 all in (taxes, installation, decals etc) and cars 21 and up are $25,000 to encourage people to sign up early . cars are available now if you can't wait until the press conference in Montreal on Thursday March 18.

Spoke today with a couple of racers from Ottawa that were aware of the Toyota/Echo series. Apparently the deal (for 20 g's) even includes the driver's suit and other driver safety equipment.
Now that's quite a "turn key" racer.
Sounds like Motorsports in Canada might be back on track.
Go Economy go.

wow, talk about a great way to get into motorsports... Drop your money and you've got your car and almost everything you need ready to go. Hopefully they can can bring this series into Ontario as well. It would be an excellent series to promote to get people into racing.
