After three days at Mosport DDT this weekend my brakes are shot. I need to by new pads, Carbotech is one of our sponsors, where do I purchase some of their pads locally?

A couple of guys have product on order with Carbotech. You may be able to arrange a group shipment with them to save a few $$. Check with Nino. I used the Carbotech Panthers two seasons ago in my Talon with way undersized barkes and they worked tremendously well and still had lots of material left at the end of the season. I highly recommend them.

Hi Brent
I bought full blown race pads, they cost a fortune but hold up real good. Its more my rotors that wear more then the shoes, but they are cheaper the the pads.
But real squicky on the street, the race pads.

So how did your R compound tires hold up?
I don`t think i will get any R tires this year, but next year for sure.
I need 255 40 17 so i am looking at over a grand.

P.S. Toronto sucks for getting good care parts

Hi DECH_92,
I ordered some Hawk pads for my car (made by Carbotech?). My R compound tires took quite a beating over 3 days on the track. I have to learn to drive smoother or buy lots of tires this season.

Try the Carbotech Panthers or Panther Plus. I used the Panthers on my Talon and they are great. They can be used on the street as well and won't eat your rotors like Hawk Blues (no more changing pads!). I just got a set of Panther Plus and will let you all know how they perform. The Panthers are good for 1000F (same as blues), the Panther Plus are good to 1200F and have more initial bite similar to Hawk Blues. Mention my name Nino, and Solo 1 for discounts. They can make rear pads or shoes as well. If you want Hawks, they can sell you Hawks or make them, any compund, custom for any car, front or rear. They really know brakes and have made pads for Audi American LeMans cars and others.

Hi Brent, are you going to lapping day or event 3 and 4 ?
LOVE to check out your Rocket and maybe you take me for a ride in it.

I'll be there. I'm pretty sure I need to sort my car a little.

On the subject of brake rotors, make sure you bed in Hawk Blues if you're going to use them. Blues are a great pad with a lot of initial bite (enough that it snapped a bolt on one caliper on my car one day) and good heat characteristics. They will eat your rotors like a rat on cheese and spray your car with white-hot metal if you don't bed them properly and use them only when you will get the temps up. Believe me.

hi DECH_92, I will be going to the June 8th lapping evening and event 3 at Shannonville, I am not registered for event 4. If by rocket you were referring to my Neon, sure I'll take you out, hell you can take it for a couple of laps if you want.

My impressions of the Carbotech Engineering Panther Plus Pads. They are very good. They have the same initial bite as the Hawk blues. I used them extremely hard with no fade for 6 hot laps (3 yellows). I do believe they need a extra bedding in. I did bed them in as recommended but did notice on my first session that they were not stopping so well. But on the second session they were great. It was most likely do to my grooved rotors from 1 event on Hawk blues. The Panther Plus pads smoothed out the rotors nicely. The grooved rotors when using Hawk blues tells me that there quality control is lacking because the pad material mixture must not be very homogenious with chunks of harder materials that cause the grooves. The Panther Plus are very rotor friendly even when cold, don't cause grooves, can be used on the street (no pad changing!), are fade resistant to 1200 deg (200 more than hawk blues) and cheaper to boot. They are available for more applications as well including rear discs and drums. Visit their web site, you can mail order direct from their 800 line. They will ship US mail to save you money from UPS thieves. You can talk to Larry who is a very nice guy, likes to chat and is very knowledgable he knows a lot about different cars and their brakes including my rear pad taper problem. Please mention Solo 1 series in Canada that they are sponsoring and mention that I sent you (Nino Mastrocola) and he will give you a discount. You better expect a few weeks for delivery. They are very busy and US mail is slow. He will ship overnight UPS but it will cost you. They also make the original Panther pad that has less initial bite but good to 1000 deg.

I concur, I have Panthers on my new Wilwood calipers, and I found that they stopped very, very well while also being streetable and reasonable on the rotors.

I tried out my new Hawk HP plus brake pads out at Shannonville FRI for lapping and Solo1 on Sat. I am not impressed, after I had them seated before Shannonville they were working great, after a couple laps ( 3 or 4 ) I came to the end of the straight on Fabi and no brakes, had to bail out down the drag section, when I finally got stopped smoke was pouring off both front brakes. After the brakes cooled down they were usable and didn't fade much during the 200 km of lapping I did, but the brakes aren't that good, about the same as before the new pads. I will order some Panther Plus after I pay for the Hawks (visa not in yet).
