i have an 1984 fiero that i love to solo 2 with this year i took the 2.5 4 banger out and put a 3.1 v6 in it. the last solo race i went to i got classed as D mod i was just wondering if this was rigth it seems alittle heavy for a car that is totaly stock other then the engine. i was just wondering if someone could explane why im in this class or what class i should be in that would be a great help.
tyler fiero 3.1
Depending on the weight of the car you would be in either CM or DM. This is due to the engine swap. Dem's the rules.
The good news is you can now do pretty much anything to your car now.

Was that engine available from the factory in that chassis? If so, take a read of the update/backdate rule, otherwise, DM

The engine block for the 3.1 is the same as the 2.8 which was available. The cylinder heads were cast iron on the fiero 2.8, and on the 3.1 they could be either iron or aluminum.
If they are iron, then would he not be able to go to CSP using the update/backdate and prep points to cover the difference in stroke?

... found my own answer..'the stroke may not be changed'.
Then the D mod is it.
Ok, I'm a little confused about the update/backdate rules.
I thought these new rules and pax factors were based on SCCA rules, if so, why do CASC's updating/backdating rules appear to be interpreted differently?
SCCA's updating/backdating is very specific as to what models and years you can swap parts and engines among,( they all appear on the same line in Appendix A). CASC seems to be a bit of a "if it bolts up, it's allowed" thing.
With such a substantial difference in interpretation how are the classes and pax numbers supposed to match up?
