Stupid Idea #546:
My brakes keep getting too hot. To keep them cool I was thinking of cutting a fan blade out a piece of sheet metal and mounting it on my wheel studs between the hub and the wheel. As the wheel turns the fan blade turns and draws air over the brake discs keeping them cooler. This also draws air from under the car aiding engine cooling and causing a low pressure under your car.

I believe this was done with 70's porsche's in racing. The rims had a fan that would suck air into the brakes. I have also seen it done with engine fan's from Corviar. Hard to explain , but it's a perfect fit for most dished wheels , I saw this on a couple pikes peak cars.

Doh! Thirty years too late again. If I had been born a hundred years ago, I would have been rich or thinking up ways to make horses faster thirty years too late.

You can buy brake fans that attach to the outside of the rim. The fins are non directional. Joe had these on the vette last time I sae it (many moons ago).

Do you have ducts? I find some cheapy brake ducts made from alluminum drier duct give me another 1 or 2 hot laps before I have problems.

No ducts Marsh. I was looking at installing some but there is not much room, which made me look at other options. I'll probably end up installing some cooling ducts though

Hi Brent, to bad someone already thought of that idea, could of been a money maker with a bit of R&D.
I want to put on brake ducks as well but there is not any good spots on the front of my car to mount the opening
I did not have any brake problems, but thats because I amto dam slow and was not on my brakes very hard.

Iwastheresunday. This time the x class went first and got in my first 2 timed rums, then we had ourfirst rollover of the day, help clean it up , by then it was around 11 or 12 and i was getting to sick with the flew to continue. so i had to leave. I did not want to but i was getting realy dizzy and figure with all that was hapening
it was a good time to leave.

i hope to get out more this year but not sure if i will be able.

I have directionally vented rotors this year. These make a very large difference, believe me. In the few laps I got before I threw a belt, there was no hint whatsoever of brake fade, and the brakes were just starting to come up to temp on the last lap around! I was braking from 160km/h-220km/h (I was in traffic) at the end of the straight each time.

I'd strongly recommend picking some of these up. Baer makes a set of vented rotors for most cars now, and they apparently really pick up a set of stock brakes a lot by dramatically improving venting. F-body guys should really look into these if they can't afford the full treatment.
