View Full Version : What I learned at autocross today: May 16 COMP

1) Irishmen need more than one coat of sunblock.

2) COMP’s marshalling system sucks soooo much that I’m considering asking CASC-OR to ban it from regional competition.

3) Horsepower isn’t everything, but it can make up for a multitude of sins.

4) I can pimp out my 13” Kumhos to desperate Miata owners.

5) Using a club event for a test and tune is a good idea – if you remember to record what you’re testing and tuning.

6) Strawberry Nutri-Grain bars just don’t cut it for lunch any more.

7) It is possible for an entire group of experienced competitors to get lost during the course walk.

8) No matter how you pronounce it, “Merkur” still sounds like Belgian slang for female genitalia.

9) Bring a chair.

10) Watching a dog eat its own feces and then barf them back up is not the way I want to start any more mornings.

Geez, this is the most disturbing list to date! :D So who won? I couldn't make it there today.

It's definitely the first time I've walked a course 3 times and walked it differently every time.

Glad I missed the fecal consumption part.

Glad I brought sunscreen.

whats worse about the said dog eating its own feces was watching it lick various peoples legs, hands and other areas thru out the rest of the day.... I guess what you don't know won't hurt you immediately...

There's days where I'm glad I stayed home from autox.

After reading that list, this is one of them

11) A T9 transmission can't support 250HP.

Well sooner or later I'll have replaced everything. I think my new goal should be to make it through more than 3 runs .

Hopefully I'll have a new transmission sourced for the Picton event.

I still had fun though todays event was great fun.

Ouch! I heard you were missing a couple of gears. Here's hoping you get 'er back on the road soon. Talk to Wes - I understand he has a lot of experience locating transmissions.;)

Despite the goofy marshalling system and a few technical glitches late in the day, it was a pretty damn nice event. The weather was PERFECT (I take credit for this - ever since I removed Garbage's "I'm Only Happy When It Rains" from my grid-music rotation we've had dry courses). And that course was absolutely brilliant. Third gear was a definite option through the slalom.

Today was a great day to be out for a sunburn, I didn't get one I got a bit of a tan I guess, I think for Marshalling they should try a rotation system just like PITL has. The timing glitches can happen to anyone I guess, I don't have any clue as to why it was happening so I wont say anything else. I had fun but my experiment on tire pressures really didn't shed any light maybe I should have gone lower to 28 or somthing but at 32 and then up to 42 didn't really change much.

P.S. It was alot of fun not worrying about times and what would happen if I didn't win.

I learned that big courses shoudl always be walked with breaks taken to figure out where you are :p

I also learnt that just as tires can leave black marks on the pavement so too can pylons when abused enough....

Over all it was a good day, but must bring sunblock for the next event. I had my sunglasses on all day and now I got a set of racing strips..
