Hi,
For the longest time I've wanted to try solo 2 but i've always been too afraid to damage my daily driver or abuse it anymore than needed. But I just picked up a 87 VW GTi 8V for dirt cheap as a project car. After looking at it a lot closer I decided it wasn't worth the effort to fix it up (some rust, dings and dents in every panel). So then I decided to make it a dedicated solo2 car that way I can race and not have to worry about blowing up my daily driver. So I read through the rules and at first I was going to run in stock but I was missing some interior bits (headliner, center console) so I decided to run F super stock.
My first question is there is a large section of floor on the drivers side that is rotted. Someone had previously repaired with a sheet of metal zippy screwed and tared around the edges. The side rails, tunnel and crossmember is still solid. It would pass a safety but I was wondering if this would be acceptable for the solo 2 rules. Also if I enjoy autocrossing this summer I would like to pull the metal and tar out and weld the metal in and do it all up proper. Would this be okay or would it be considered to be reinforcing the chassis and I would get docked points for it?
Second question, for super stock you are allowed to remove any or all interior trim for two preperation points. It says "comfort items" and I was wondering if this includes the ductwork for the heating system under the dash. I would think that heat would be a comfort item but I want to be sure before I remove it all.
Now this car isn't going to be liscenced or insured. I will be trailering the car to events. Is this a problem? Do I need to insure the car in order to be elligible? Also is there generally enough room for a pick-up truck and trailer at the events, I know their in big parking lots but i'm not sure how big the courses are or how much room there is for parking.
Sorry about the long post and lots of questions. Thanks in advance for any insight.
