Some may be wondering about my car after my experience with the tire wall at T8 on the GP track.
It's certainly out for the season but (hopefully) it can be reborn!
Have had it looked at and frame, suspension points etc. look good.
The rest of the car - not so good.
Starting with the engine though. Oil in top of cylinders from being upside-down, so took coils & plugs out today and will crank it to try to get the oil out. Then will put the cleaned up plugs back in, fill the rad and try to start. Fingers crossed. If it actually runs it will be a big step in the right direction.
Thanks to many for assistance & advice (including Scott Murfin, my official OTA mechanical advisor!)
Dirty oily plugs out, (the dirt from water & dirt that was in the tire wall tires got everywhere!) then cleaned them and cleaned the coils too - couldn't resist!

So, more functional than cosmetic. I like it.

AGHHH - rat rod!? I'm keeping an open mind but hmmm....I hope not.
Did get some oil out of the cylinders today though. Messy!

Engine started! :)
Will check oil filter and hope to find nothing but oil....

Took front wheels off, had a closer look underneath, cleaned things up.
Since the engine runs I paid particular attention to it.
Waiting for new bumpsteer kit from Steeda so I can get the front wheels working, then off to the body shop. That's where the major work will be.
Front end, fenders, hood, doors, windshield, roof....

Glad to see you're making progress and getting back at it, Kelly! Should we should race to see who gets on track first? Lol:cool:

Couple more pics....
Can see from these that the back end & engine bay, once cleaned up, look great - but, then from the front, needs a lot of new body parts & some suspension bits...

Best is good to see your feeling Spry enough to do work on the car :)

And, once you get past the grill, fenders, hood, windshield and roof...the car doesn't look that bad :D:D

Most of this stuff was inside the car when I picked it up. The marshals did a good job of cleaning up.
Now....what goes where?

Thanks David (and all).
I never really know who might be interested in the progress of the rebuild, but good to know some are!
I'll post more when there is more to post - suspension parts all on back order now :(
Hope to have the car good as new and back home by late fall.
Then can see about a dedicated track car!

When do you bring it down to John's shop for the rebuild?

Needs a couple of minor front suspension repairs in the driveway, then onto a flatbed & off to Scott's for rest of suspension repairs. Am now waiting for required parts.
Then onto John's for the rest.

Yes, please Kelly, keep us updated.

Since you're going to have the roof off, this is the perfect time...

Nothing to see here folks....
Been quiet, have to wait for Scott's new workshop to be ready.
(worth the wait though).
In the meantime I'll be at SMP and GBR and in my mind (an unusual place) my blue #61 will be out there....;)

It's a labour of love Kelly. Keep up the meticulous (as if we expected anything less!) work. :)

Looks like this Sunday is the day the car will be transported to Can-Alignment for the suspension repairs before heading to the body shop. I put some winter wheels/tires on the car. Don't know how long this will take and I want to store the track wheels & tires in a heated garage. Been a long summer without #61 so this is very exciting for me. :)

Many thanks to Scott M. at CanAlignment.
Excellent customer service and advice.
The suspension repairs have been completed and the car is in the hands of John at his body shop. I'm feeling confident. I've seen some of John's work and it just so happens he is very experienced with Mustangs, both old and new!
Once there are progress pics to show, I'll post them. :)

Was so close to having the car ready for lapping at E2. But a part enroute from U.S. is holding it up. Hope to be back on track later this summer. Can't wait!

Just learned of a new setback. :( Apparently suspension related.
John & Scott working on it though. Which is good.

Sure. I had anticipated as yet unknown issues and sure enough that's what's happening. Cross member has a bend not previously seen. Have sourced new one. Control arm & ball joint probably affected. Also running rough above 2000 RPM. Looks like oil throughout internals. Maybe new O2 sensors. It's all being looked at. I need to continue to be patient!

Cross member & control arm replaced. New MAP sensor fixed engine issue. Just need airbag module. Getting very close...............(I think)

She's home!!
Picked car up yesterday. Gave it a good run and feels "like new". Incredible job on the repairs by all. My thanks to so many for work done and moral support.
Will change brake lines and fluids and hope to give it a few laps at SMP!

Kelly I think he was referring to the body panels on the driver and not the car :p

Good to see you back!
