Thank you for coming to the OTA Classification workshop and to those that submitted good ideas, but couldn't make the meeting.

Kelly is working with the tracks for schedule dates for 2016. Target is to have two schools (CTMP DDT, CTMP MIR) and 6 competitive events (CTMP DDT, MIR, TMP, SMP).

Here are the rule changes discussed at the Workshop. These changes still require OTA Committee Approval at the November meeting;

1. Use 2015 Classes (14) and Individual PAX (IPAX) so Competitors with non optimized cars will be more competitive in class.

2. There was evidence (from 6 events at CTMP MIR) showing that low horsepower cars don't have an advantage, so PAX and BT PAX formulas will remain the same.

3. To simplify Race Weight process, increase the Race Weight submission requirement from "Greater then 4 bPIPs " to "Greater than 5 bPIPs'. Also, eliminate need for a Curb Weight submission form but still require a photo submission of the weight scale reading. The scale used can be any commercial vehicle weight scale with a print out of weight. Any engine or transmission swap will require a Car Race Weight.

4. Authorized modification to the rear bumper skin to allow for exhaust piping.

5. Removal of Rear bumper skin provides an aerodynamic advantage, so will be 1 PIP (maybe part of diffuser rule 5.1.A3.4).

6. Rule 5.1.A3 Aero Mods; Additional 1 PIP for each of splitter, or wing greater than 4" past the forward most, rearward most, sides (excluding side mirrors), or highest point of OE vehicle body.

7. Rule 5.1.C.8 for front seat modification PIPs will remain the same at 1 bPIP.

The Competitor Survey results for Classification were discussed. Here are some comments;
1. A few competitors felt their base car was miss-classified. The base Performance Index consists of 70% for weight to power ratio and 30% for a handling index. Please submit car make and model with your reasoning to the CCC so we can have a look at it (timeattack.ccc@casc.on.ca).

2. Some rules overestimate performance value of PIPs applied. Two options; submit request to CCC to have another look, or don't make that change to your car.

3. Add rules to distinguish between high vs low performance parts. This would complicate the rules counter to the objective of rule simplification.

The objective of the CCC is rule fairness. Considering the many car makes and options over the years, and the great variety of modification options available, we continue to work on making the rules simpler.

Your ideas are helpful.

Thanks for posting John. There was no explicit comment about whether class wins will be based on iPAX or Raw times. Since I know it was a topic of considerable discussion, what will be recommended to the OTA Committee?

Thanks.

There wasn't much discussion on that point since we were using the same, 2015, 5 PIP classifications, and there wasn't much difference. At 2015 Event 1, one competitor, near bottom of a class, would move up one position, if we used IPAX for class and overall score. At MIR, Event 4, three competitors would have moved up one or two spots each if we use IPAX.

Combining classes, say 10 PIP per class, there were many more raw time vs IPAX discrepencies (eg. Event 1 had 9 IPAX scores that didn't match Raw time order. Event 4 had 11 IPAX scores that didn't match raw time order).

John, will 2016 then be a 5 of 6 event season?

Any interest in adding two more events at SMP, Fabi and Nelson, to add some different track configurations?

We used to have 4 events at SMP but found poor attendance on the second weekend.

5 out 6 is the plan now. OTA will probably discuss further before final decision.

Do you think 2 days at TMP would help attendance there? Maybe some people are hesitant to make the drive for only one day.

Just a thought...

Thanks John. It makes sense.

The plan is to have 6 events, with 5 counting for the season.
2016 will be a rebuilding year for us at OTA. 2015 was difficult financially and we need more people out at each event. If this works well, we can take it from there and regroup for 2017.

The tracks are not all confirmed yet, but the dates have been requested. Once the OTAO Committee finalizes the plan and I hear back from the tracks, I will post a schedule.

Jim, we have used all 4 tracks configurations at SMP in the past. We're limited to two events there this year and (IMHO) Pro and Long are the preferred choices by far.
