We are a volunteer run organization and we need your help.

Unlike the big leagues we do not have a any budget to promote our sport.

In the sales/marketing world, "referrals" and "word of mouth" are the best promoters of any product and service, and they are free!

We need your help which in turn will help grow our sport!

What ways could you help promote OTA and attract new competitors?

Talk to a neighbour, family member or work associate!

Perhaps posting on a website or ideas like this?

Tell us what your doing to help grow OTA?

Remember "cost effective" is the key!

SHOW US YOUR PROMOTION!!!

I contacted some of the guys I used to work with and told them about OTA. Turns out some of them have fathered children since I last spoke with them and so they don't have time or money for OTA. I'm distributing contraceptives to the rest. :p

Seriously, though, I'll try again with my former workmates.

I knew Miata drivers were a good lot! Maybe we should get a sponsor from the contraceptive manufacturers to help the sport?

I am amazed we only have one response to this thread...

Imagine if each of us could draw in one more competitor to the sport, it would keep OTA going strongly for years because of a better financial situation and make things very competitive and fun!

Drivers this is grassroots racing, we all need to start recruiting and getting the word out the the grassroots level!

Please tell us what your doing to help grow our sport!

I think the best way for OTA to be promoted is at track days... Grand Bend on Thursday nights has 25-35 entries in the summer! I leave my car decals on and many people ask about it.

It would be great to have a promotion for a very cheap one day trial for new comers! I know that's how I got hooked.

Entry level run what you brung type of event.

FB is a great source too...

I will try to push the guys from Grand Bend to get out and support our series. Go to track days, these guys all have deep pockets! If we could get a few to come out and try it, that would be a start!

I support promotion at track events and driving schools. I instruct at Hanson (DDT) and Brack (SMP) schools several times a year and will try to make a pitch for OTA next time round. Several other OTA participants participate in the same schools so we could make a group presentation?
I would hesitate to promote the OTA to naive drivers even assuming they take the OTA school. It seems like too big a step. Just my opinion.

Have we looked at promoting our sport as a step up from Auto cross? There is a large audience that already has the motor sports bug.
The event at TMP would be a perfect introduction to OTA for this crowd.

You just made my friggin day with that post!!!

I've got a lot of my customers here at JRP that are either interested in competing or don't want to run in CSCS this year, and I've been directing them our way. They all seem quite enthusiastic! Also getting ready to make some public Instagram, Facebook and YouTube media (with my limited media-making abilities LOL) to hopefully spread some word as well. :)

The region appreciates all the assistance it can get from our afiliated clubs and their members, our competitor base and volunteers.
Might I suggest that everyone post our professionally prepared video for Time Attack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtemkJ-5aXs on their web sites, Facebook pages etc and share out to your friends. Word of mouth and social media are the least expensive forms of advertising for the region, so we thank you for participating and assisting us in growing our sport.

We're in the process of putting the final touches on our place2race.ca web site so that enthusiasts can see what we're all about and get the pertinent info they need to be part of this great organization and the divisions we have available.

Our other division videos are available online

Wow people, that's the spirit!

We heard from a few of our valued competitors, the mechanical wiz at our sponsor and the head guy himself from CASCOR.

Surely we have more ideas to add? Anyone?

Wow, this is an excellent video! I didn't know it existed. I thought the "essence of Time Attack video" was the video produced in 2013 that showed excerpts from the 2013 DDT school. Can't find that 2013 video anywhere. I thought it was on the OTA Facebook page.

I suggest that the "Essence of Time Attack" video replace the video currently on the Time Attack home page. It's much better.

Also it would be a good idea to update the Time Attack home page. Currently it states (as we all probably know) "The 2015 season is nearly over." While I'm sure Mo likes to see his CRX on the home page (:p), it might be time to say something like "The 2016 season is almost here".

Don't under-estimate word-of-mouth and referrals
Pretty sure I have 3 new recruits for the series and somebody else interested in the MIR school !
Is there a prize for most referrals? :D

How about updating the events page on the website?

Also, I couldn't find a description of what happens at the schools. It would be nice to be able to refer someone to an information page for the school.

It's embarrassing, we know, so after fighting so long with that CMS, we've committed to a new website which will launch before the open house which we'll be able to edit

We've wanted to link in the Essence of CASC-OR videos since last year but can't. We can't get rid of the Leatt brace notice from 2014 that affected NONE of our competitors. The grey on grey text and red on grey text is difficult to read. Rest assured, we're ditching it.

Each Division Director is supposed to keep their division up-to-date. It would appear that no one has done this since I retired as the OTA Director.

It is not that hard to do but requires time and effort.

Well as everyone knows, the person responsible for this site is the Time Attack Director regarding content.

Since we have been late our the gate and not having anyone in the position since January, I am running hard to get things done.

I have updated everyone on what is important on the forums and will try to catch up on everything else when it is settled.

We certainly do not want this thread to be hijacked to become something else.

We need your help regardless what you think of the website. So anyone else have any positive and inspiring ideas to help promote OTA attract new drivers?

Yes that is true. But as a first year Director there are many responsibilities that have to be learned and prioritized. And to be honest, the website is unnecessarily cumbersome to deal with. So it became a "bottom of the list" job that, I admit, I never got around to. I'm sure the current Director feels the same way, but I have confidence in him. I always believed T/A will be successful this year and I still do.

I think you're on the right track, and there are a lot of good ideas and support from our regular competitors. One of the things I did was leave a supply of the OTA/CTDA Schedule cards Gary W. supplied with my local performance shop. I've been a customer at the shop for several years and a whole lot of performance type gearheads go there, so hopefully there will be some interest!

What is needed is a lot of promotion through social media. Younger people are always on their phones exchanging information. Our younger competitors must rise to the occasion and start promoting OTA through "their" electronic media. We older guys are used to magazines but the youth of today are not. Print media doesn't necessarily work in this day and age.

As for the current website it is one of the most extensive websites around with respect to motorsports. There is a lot of info on that website and it must be maintained and kept current. There is absolutely no need to build a new website! If you want to change the colour scheme just send a request to the webmaster with your reasoning and I'm sure things can be worked out.

Just to be clear, we're not reinventing these forums, OTA is a CASC-OR provincial championship and sanctioned series and we'll continue to use these forums for announcement and discussion. The new webpage is for only what you see here; www.time-attack.ca (http://www.time-attack.ca) and will automatically link posts to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, whatever the kids are using these days. It can accept payment for events in a more economical way than Motorsports Reg to automate some things for the treasurer. It can let several people post articles so we aren't reliant on one person. And for Jimminy's sake it will be easier to work with. We also plan to move forward with @time-attack.ca addresses instead of having some series resources use @casc.on.ca, others @hotmail.com, others @spda-online.ca, etc. We're open to other suggestions as well.

If you want to change the colour scheme just send a request to the webmaster with your reasoning and I'm sure things can be worked out.

Regretfully, no. New site will of course refer back to www.casc.on.ca, have ASN and CASC-OR logos on it, etc. Assuming the website can get sanctioning... ;) There will be no doubt that it is still part of CASC-OR.

Greg Campbell, are you still able to handle our social media postings with your additional workload this year?

The good: I've been tweeting the link to the Essence of Time Attack video, info about the Open House at JRP, the event schedule on the OTA forum and a link to the OTA web site :)

The bad: I only have 39 followers. :(

The good: Two of my followers are automotive journalists. :)

The bad: They probably think I'm crazy by now and not to be trusted. :(

Apologies if I started the web site debate, but having an up-to-date web site gives new-comers a sign that the organization is thriving. An out-of-date site might cause new-comers to wonder if there really is going to be a 2016 season. Thus my concern over the "the 2015 season is nearly at an end" banner on the site.

But the site looks good now. :)

Incidentally, I still have a link to the Solo 1 web site from back when I was thinking about doing Solo 1, before it became Time Attack. But I think from the context - it talks about the 2005 season - most people would guess that Solo 1 is defunct.

This thread is a very interesting one because it involves 2 of my predecessors.

What I share with my predecessors Chuck, and Kelly is the focus to make the series work regardless of obstacles present and personal biases.

The reason we are all motivated to do so is because of YOU the participant.
Our dedication to you comes first.

You can see that if the Directors job was as easy as booking a course and making a timetable that we would be able to work on a million other things including the web site. Unfortunately, our job does not stop there.. instead we have to put up with political crap which takes a toll on our energy and distorts our focus.

But please do not give up on me yet, because I have not forgotten the dedication and drive that Chuck and Kelly required to make previous series work. We all do not get paid for this position so we do not claim to be professional or always make the right decision, but our hearts and minds are into making this more fun for everyone else.

Please help us and let us know what you think and how you can help us make 2016 a fantastic revival of our series?

Well now, we have something new to promote!

The Raw Time Challenge allows competitors to not have to go though the same classing system and PIP procedure as Time Attack.

Now everyone has a choice, to PIP or not to PIP! Lets pop the question!

Please tell your friends and refer to this forum thread

Some positive stuff from our contributors!
