Since this was kind of buried in the "unofficial rumors" section, I thought I'd be it out in front:

Register here:
http://www.cac2016.ca/index.php/en/8-news/6-cac-online-registration-info

Register by June 30th to avoid $50 late fee.

IF I can find a way to escape for the weekend I'll likely need to find a codrive.

Will have to be a last minute call. :(

My friend has a bone stock S2k. I'm helping him to do his first nationals.

(I wish I had an S2k hidden away somewhere)

You should make yours into one. I'm pretty sure the difference in pax is almost non existent. Just throw some springs on it and you'll be so much faster :D

Saj5DJ

Car for the class at US nats and what you can achieve on PAX are very different.

I'm sure I could go faster with an STR S2K.

Was all part of Daniel's evil plan to rope me into Chump so I couldnt afford one. :P

Regardless, my NB is as fun as hell. Such a blast to autocross.

The fact its locally competitive is a nice bonus really.

Lol... Very little roping required, if I remember correctly. :D. But yeah, can't have you going any faster, obviously!!

All part of my new plan. If I can't go faster, no one does!!! Lol

And yet, Celica?!? So confusing...:rolleyes::D LOL

Carl from five years ago would kick your ass for saying that.

Despite the disappointment of a wounded car (and driving like complete ass) the hanging out with the people really made this weekend for me. This was another memorable nationals.

A big thank you to Peter and Doug from MCO for allowing me to drive their cars. Certainly learned a few things this weekend, and I'm very thankful that I was at least able to complete my runs. Congrats on your trophies.

What better way to spend a weekend than with the best bunch of racers in the whole damn country? From eggrolls to guys who still may not be named Jeff, drapeau rouges and WalMart sleeping bags (no homo), crow poses and chinups, gate hopping and midnight poutine, "is there a PITL this weekend?" and Pocky sightings, shock settings and "one more run!!!", STfU classes and bacon tape, more eggrolls and clamato drinks (pronounced clamato, not clamato), mystery bread and literally drinking under the table, petite/moyen/grand choices and $1 drinks, towels shorter than shorts and Honda hats, runs that are separated by .001 () and no trophies for trophy winners, 3DS wizardry and a single chocolate almond, hot-dog "buns" and nipples, I'm not sure how much more can be said to recap the weekend. Yeah, some cars and cones and stuff too, but that's not really what it was about for a lot of us. And those are just the things that I experienced. There's probably hundreds more stories that went on this weekend, you just have to be there to get it :D

Congratulations to FastMike for his overall championship. When will somebody beat this guy?!?!

Congratulations to our good friend Carl Wener (bbqman) who was recognized for his 30+ years of contributions to motorsports as a driver, instructor, organizer, shit-disturber and so much more. 30 more years Carl? We hope it's way more than that!

Congratulations and thank-you to CADL for putting on an incredible event at one of the best venues I've ever been to.

And of course a huge THANK-YOU to Louis for letting me co-pilot the people's choice car of the weekend. I don't even think the NSX ever got as much attention as your Civic Wagon seems to get. It's a ton of fun to drive, mostly because it drives incredibly well.

If you missed out on all of this, Nationals will be back in Eastern Canada in two years. Start planning for it.

This was a total blast- I have never worked so hard as a non organizer and apparently when i stop driving i may have a career in broadcasting...lol that was fun.

having regrets about not going to SCCA Nationals this year...... but will make it happen next year- so Bruno says.

So happy to call ya'll family.

Amazing venue to visit. Amazing people to visit it with. At no point during the days did I actually want to sit down. I just wanted to keep walking and talking all day. Everyone loved talking about their cars and runs. No one minded me scoping their stuff. Everyone was super open about their setups. The music, the commentary, the atmosphere, it was the best!

The stories and memories will last a long time.

Everyone deserves a pat, hi5, and/or fist bump. Drivers, organizers, spectators, PMG employees, trophiers, almost trophiers, bbqers, commentators and even the people who had to fish their wheel out of the ditch water.

Thanks to Erik for the bone stock BS codrive. It was a unique challenge that I found very rewarding.

Returning to normal life after the CAC2016 high was rough. Finally, the fog of Nationals withdrawal has lifted enough for me to string together some sentences and post some videos.

Thanks to the organizers for running a silky smooth event and taking care of us hooligans. Thanks to Carl for entertaining everyone throughout the weekend; your spirit award is well deserved! And thanks to all competitors for being just the right kind of weirdo to find joy in our sport.

Videos:
Day 1 fast run (https://youtu.be/dh07uwqjBjM)
Day 2 almost (+1 cone) fast run (https://youtu.be/1oGQBuHXsAw)

Side notes:
My original uploads were served with Copyright notices and got muted. At first I thought youtube algorithms had matched my suspension squeaks to some low grade p0rn movie. Turns out, my recordings caught some songs playing in the paddock. Silly youtube algorithms.

That lead me to discover a really easy way to trim video using VLC player: Enable 'Advanced Controls'; play the video to be trimmed; hit 'Record' at the start of where you want to trim; then hit 'Record' again at the end of where you want to trim. VLC saves the trimmed piece in the default 'My Documents\My Videos' folder. Perfect for cutting off the slow staging bit from the beginning, and the sweaty helmet hair reveal at the end of our videos. All without fumbling with pro video editing software or sketchy third-party video trimming apps. You are welcome.

Yang your car seems very loose. Very nice tight lines! I am wondering what rear gear your car has? You were in 3rd way longer then my car. When do you shift?(RPM) Could be just the added grip/speed of your wheels/springs/setup..ect

Didn't see exact revs but I was short shifting both days to get into 3rd before the course got busy. Trying to shift during heavy slalom transitions has high risk of landing in fifth. The car's got decently fat torque curve that I didn't really miss the last few hundred revs.

.....lol, did I just use the words "decently fat torque curve" to describe a Miata engine???

A bit late to the party here...

A bunch of us from the GTHA road-tripped it up to Ottawa to try the famous egg rolls at the extremely authentic (almost too authentic, as per the ceiling if you've ever seen it) Golden Palace restaurant. They were pretty good. The guys were eating egg rolls well into Sunday. Looking back, we had way too much junk food and water... not that this is a bad thing.

Hanging out and the post-race festivities is always the big draw with the Canadian Nationals. Dipping my feet into the outdoor-and-indoor pool was kinda interesting. The hardwood floors of one of the hotel rooms we booked was extra-baller. Stopping in at the Perth Brewery was also another great idea - those grapefruit radlers were excellent. I wonder if Steven ended up finishing that bottle of tequila or whatever that stuff was. I also wonder if the remainder of Barry's clothes held up to whatever else he subjected them to (it was a good story).

Now to the driving: a big shout-out to Ryan for graciously accepting a co-drive in my Civic, and beating me with it! I like to think my hand-work has gotten better over the years, but apparently not! It's pretty cool seeing the video footage: our driving styles are quite different. Ryan's smooth driving and ability to maintain momentum (read: more balls) puts me to shame. Back to the drawing board I go! I got killed at the bus stop on both days. Congrats to Ryan for bringing some hardware home in STS!

I had never driven that car on a course with that much speed and space - pretty refreshing stuff. CADL put on a great show, and PMG really is an amazing venue. It was also a good opportunity to brush up on our radio calls, en Franšais: voiture cent-deux, en parkour!
