maybe Bancroft. I'm not sure they have decided yet.

I think Bancroft is probably a fall back location if they don't find anywhere else

Snoweys! ... How bout some rally tires and a skid plate!

I,m gonna have to remove the ballast too...

What kind of surfaces are we looking at Chris? Is it primarily flat or are there some jumps we have to consider?

Im not really into seam welding the Ol' girl and removing a custom ice race suspension just to save it for the up-coming season.

Andy, you'll have no problem. The surface last time i was there was quite soft, and sandy, after a couple cars the surface was chewed up a bit. That is if it's hot and sunny. If we get some rain for the event it won't be bad at all.

The last time i ran, i ran the Red XT Stud car. We just bolted on tractionized gaurdex's put about 40 PSI in them, went out and actually finished 2nd overall!!!

The track is such that you wont get out of 2nd gear, so suspension doesn't matter much.

Snowies vs. Gravel Tires...There is a penatly for gravel tires. i think it's like 2% of your time...With the course the way it is, you are going to be faster on snow tires...much faster than the 2% advantage. The reason being there really isn't any hard pack to bite into. It'd probably say, whip out the slush tires and have at it.

There are no jumps or anything.

One thing though...seal up any holes in the floors you might have. It does get really dusty if it doesn't rain.

So I guess air filters on the Webbers are a must then:eek:

I only have 1" from the end of the horns and the firewall ...Maybe I can make up some sort of plenim to suck air through the hood scoop,(it's facing backwards for heat disipation).

Do It Sidewayz
08-04-2004, 05:40 PM
i remember you telling me that.

now that i'm thinking...you might not be all that bad. i doubt you will get that much dust back there.

other than that...go buy some pantyhose, and strech them over the horns. just put like 5 layers. then try using a light coating of filter oil.

All this talk reminds me. i really need to go clean my K&N....not to mention get my new clutch in the car. mmmm...Kevlar clutch Disc :D

The Gas stand-off from the carbs melts the nylon and then the carbs ingest it! ... Not good for the primaries ...

Do It Sidewayz
08-04-2004, 05:46 PM
indeed....

hmmm....go see a motorcycle shop then.

They all have a set-up very similar to what you are talking about, They use a mushroom style foam filter. Foam filters actually work really well in the dirt, and don't restrict flow too much.

Or find some really open foam material...even go and buy some cheap foam cone style filters, and cut them up to use the filter material.

Now you got me thinking .... Ten to Five! ....See Ya!

Got the tires! ... Bridgestone Potenza RE43R's (soft) and their not classed as a gravel tire their Mud and Snows.

Almost got the 1/4" skid pan done too!

Hows the Just-in-time coming??

Do It Sidewayz
08-12-2004, 07:36 PM
slow..

Right now the engine and tranny are out of it, as i need to put in the new clutch, and do a pile of other stuff.

Hopefully everything will be back together by saturday.

then i need to break in the clutch for 1000 kms, before i can beat on it up there.

I don't have tires and crap yet either.

And i do think those will be classed as gravel tires.

I dropped by the "Pit" in Bancroft after work the other day and scoped it out... Their not kidding, it is a pit! More like a prehistoric Meteor landed there, its big, dusty, and lots of sand.

However, as I was about to leave the owner of the old concrete factory/landowner stopped me and said that someone from the organizing body had asked weather or not it was possible to use his yard area around the buildings to run on. That would be cool. The area around his buildings is large, flat, hard and packed with crushed granite and gravel.

Have you heard where we would be running? In the pit or out the front?

Do It Sidewayz
08-13-2004, 04:05 PM
i think both actually. they said they were going to be setting up 2 tracks. i'm assuming one int he pit, and another around that road.

as far as the pit. Usually they grade the surface very often.

However...i'm still hoping for some rain. it would really help out up there

Pics pics! Unflipped, unedited (except for a couple license plates), uncommented, in all their raw glory:

Enjoy!

I also have a bunch of video but I have no way to transfer it from my (tape) camera to my computer... Give me a few days here and I'll see if I can't post it up.

(Yes, that was copy and pasted from my longer post on the MLRC board, okay, I'm lazy.)

so would this be about similar to Solo-2 on dirt, in terms of car-prep required, course layout/speed, etc?

AlanO
10-24-2004, 09:11 PM
Car prep ranges fairly widely, from bone stock to cars equipped with skid plates, racing belts and proper rally tires. Nothing special is required, other than a helmet. We don't penalize or reclassify cars based on the number of modifications. As far as I know, nobody broke any major parts despite the courses getting a bit chewed up at times. We had a grader on hand to smooth things out between runs.

This year we ran two courses. One was very similar to a solo2 on gravel, with a course marked out by pylons. The other course ran around some existing roads built into a gravel pit, so it was more like a mini rally stage except there was nothing to hit if you went off. Speeds are low in the upper lot and are a bit higher in the pit.

I tore a rubber boot clean off my steering rack! Does that count?
