Thanks folks. 124 bucks is a bit outrageous, even the Pegasus one is 10 bucks more than I paid last time but hey, whatever.

Like the princess idea but it doesn't flash?

Nowhere in our rules does it say that the "FIA" rain light is required to flash.

Pat, Powersports is where I got mine (last minute for Ted Powell last year).

BTW, the Princess Auto unit is 156 lumen, and the FIA spec is listed here (in units of cd): http://www.casc.on.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=26967&page=3 (post #45)

But I have not one clue how to convert between the two units, but there is a web calculator:
http://www.rapidtables.com/calc/light/lumen-to-candela-calculator.htm

It's well beyond my inner nerd to make heads or tails of the calculations though...

Shouldn't the requirement just be for events the officials determine as "rain" events? That way cars that don't even have wipers or the intention of running in even the slightest of drizzles don't need a $150 light that they will never use?
If the officials make the call that it's a rain event you either have one or you park the car

(Disclaimer - My car has one already)

Mine only flashes after a couple of drinks.

We never have run in the rain and i hope we never do but we still have to have a rain light and we did use it once when visibility was down a little do to fog. When we installed ours there was only a couple choices that would be deemed acceptable according to the rules, pretty sure a princess auto one would not be acceptable. Even had to supply the part number for verification

The rules say.........

11.2 RAIN LIGHT
All cars shall have an FIA approved rain light. Notwithstanding this requirement, any car without this rain light may be approved if the light meets or exceeds the FIA standard as determined by the chief Scrutineer.

Im "pretty sure" the chief scrutineer may determine your Princess Auto rain light meets or exceeds the standard.

Just sayin'
