It brings me great pleasure to announce a unique new event to the WOSCA calendar.

Thanks to a gracious offer by the National Compact Racing Association, WOSCA will host our first ever "Slalom at the Strip".

On August 1st we will be holding an Autoslalom in the Grand Bend Motorplex paddock DURING an NCRA drag event.

Times and entry fees will be the same as the WOSCA summer slalom series.

This event is an excibition that is still open to all competitors. The idea is to show the drag guys what we can do. Since everyone on the property will have signed the waiver "ride-alongs" will be the order of the day. It is also likely that there will be prizes for solo competitors as well.

At the end of the day there will also be an opportunity for new people to register for fun-runs and a second driver's meeting will be held.

Details of the event are still being hammered out so look for more updates.

Warning: The paddock area at GBM isn't very large, about the size of the skid pad at Mosport, so don't look for an fast open course. Just a fun day to hang out with a different crowd and share or interests.

I'm really hoping some of our fastest CASC-OR competitors will come out and put on a good show for 1/4 mile guys.

Details:
Sun. Aug. 1st 2004
Gates open to public at 8am
Registration from 9am - 10am
Drivers meeting around 10:30
$20 entry for all Solo competitors - includes entry into facillity (WOSCA rebate for early arrivals only)
Fun run fee - TBA
Spectators - $15 (paid to NCRA, sorry can't do anyting about that one)

If you would like to try both drag and slalom you can pay for drag "Test and Tune" then register for fun runs during the drag elliminations.

note: directions on the NCRA site are WRONG. See the wosca flyer

Oh and BTW guys, the NCRA approached me about this event. We at WOSCA thought it was a great gesture to offer the olive branch and we hope that this might lead to some other similar cross-over events in the future.

Cool, I wanted to check out some drags anyway... I'm betting 17.5 for me.

I meant to ask you today if there will be some kind of Ironman point system using your drag time and best solo 2 time for an ultimate Ironman....or woman....competitor class. That would be cool! :)

This is all very tempting indeed!

At this point there is no combined competition. Neither group wants people showing up late or missing runs because they were in line at the other track. So the only way to do both is pay for Test and Tune as well as Slalom and squeeze in whatever test and tune you can. But miss a slalom run and you won't get to make it up.

Sounds like an awesome event.

My accord runs 16.7!

This sounds interesting. I think I can get down to a 14.9 with the car in it's current trim.

This is what I read into the post. You do either one or the other. The idea is to show the drag fans what a Solo2 event is like and maybe give them another avenue to explore. The flip is to organize a drag strip day and do that.

The event sounds like fun but have to wonder what kind of design you can get in such a small lot. It would have to be well thought out or we'd have a crowd of people laughing at us for the slower speeds. Make sure we get a lot of spectator ride alongs and fun runs so they can see how far off the pace they really are the first time.

Given that, I'd be somewhat interested in what the family wagon could do without turning. My big chance to smoke the basic Miata.

My Insight is an 18 second car.
My 98 Legacy 2.5GT was a 17 second car.

I'm planning on going to the auto slalom.
It's been a while since i've raced a 1st gear only course (<60 km/hr) i'm looking forward to it.

If only I could win the lottery I'd get that GT28RS and 20+ PSI I've always wanted. Mid to high 12's isn't that fast in the grand scheme of things but it would be more than enough to cause me to poop my pants.

I ran 15.5 before the fan conversion. if that makes any difference.

Remember guys, you dont need a helmet for the strip. You DO need shoes and long pants. The jogging pants at the concession are ridiculously over-priced.
That paddock is small; probably wont get out of first gear in most vehicles.
Sounds like fun but dont think I can make it.

IMHO, mid 12's ain't nothing to sneeze at - I'll betcha it's enough to out-run 95% of the cars on the road (at the dragstrip, of course).

Cheers!
