In another Thread concerning other new tracks coming on board Bill Lobban comments that we don`t need more events due to the low registrations. Bill thinks its a $ and cents issue and he is probably partly correct as our sport has become more financialy demanding on the Clubs and car owners.
I question wether my own reason for not attending this years events is more prevelent then CASC OR admits to. Steven might be correct in suggesting that there is only one other driver in my position this year.
Last year my Doctor decided to specialise in a different field leaving me to find a new Doctor which I did. This year I am required to have a Physical for my Application. I was diagnosed with a medical condition in the fall of 2003 in a regular visit to the Doctor and subsequently tested in London by a specialist in Oct 2003 and Feb 2004.
I fell between the cracks so to speek till June when I contacted London to see what the test results were. They had forgoten to inform my Doctor and myself as they felt there was no immediate concerns.
It was June 28th when I finaly had my Physical and was found to be OK. My Doctor told me my condition had a slim to none chance of effecting me at this time. However she would not sign the application as she felt it opened her up for liability as it was writen.
Upon my examining the form I found that the previous 3 options that the Doctors could sign on had been reduced to 2 options, yes or no!
My previous Doctor was never inclined to sign for me as I was the only driver that she saw, and was also concerned about liability. She always signed the second line which gave CASC `s Doctors or ASA staff her results of the physical exam and they would OK the licence.
I then consulted with Steven at CASC and on July 16th they added a 3 line paragraph to the Drs instructions which should have addressed my Doctors concerns. < find it on page Dear Doctor after line 4 of Functional requirements of driver>
I forwarded the new form as well as the Entrant, Driver and spectator waiver forms to my Doctor. She still feels that lines such as driver will be subjected to 45 degree heat etc. leaves her open liable, and if you take the time to read all the application form you can see a Doctors concern.
I then had her contact the Ontario Medical Insurance Co. that looks after Doctors etc. and also my specialist in London.
Guess what? the insurance specialist is on vacation, my specialist in London is on vacation till Augt. 3, my Doctor is on vacation till Augt. 9th. Man this is Hell!!
If I ever get everyone on board it will be time for next years application and a year of racing is lost.
The only long term solution is for CASC to replace the deleted 2nd line which we always had till this year.
One good thing did arise in the last week, a chance meeting with Doctor from London through my Tree Maintance Company who understands my condition and said he might take me on if it I can`t resolve my Doctor`s liabilty concerns.
I wonder if the new two line signature forms have been a problem for other drivers.
Now you know why one driver entrant has not been at the events. I hate looking at my Camaro and not being able to race it. I NOT GOING FISHING YET!
See you at the Le Mans weekend/ as a spectator!

Yep, it certainly has gone up a few bucks since I came on board in 2001. Entry fees were between $235-245 for a Sprint weekend, but typically, there was a combined practice qualifying, and only two races.

At the DAC weekend, there was a Saturday practice, Qualifying, Sprint race 20 mins, then on Sunday there were to be Sunday Warm up, and 2 20 min races.

So basically, without the Sentra Series and Canada Cup, the other series get more track time. That is worth the extra $100 entry fee in my opinion, but for some people, that $100 goes a long way!!

However, we also had to invest in transponders (I bought one, sold it (stupid me) and now have to buy one again at $490). I would also like to invest in some more personal safety equipment, looking at buying a Hans Device, I feel my life is worth it.

So yeah, the higher rates have kept some of the drivers away, even the ones that "can" afford it. The other costs of actually keeping the car on the track has gone up too!!

However, I did solve my tow vehicle issue, I sold my trailer to someone who will allow me to borrow it anytime I want :) (sweet deal eh?!?) and my car/trailer tows perfectly fine behind my Volvo so I don't have to drive a gas guzzling pickup or van as a daily driver.

I envy the good old days, way back when, when Mosport first opened, and only Nelson was paved, ahhh.... I look at all those old photos of people who actually DROVE their car to the track. That must have been a fun time.

The CASC has been working hard at promoting the sport, and in time, we'll see the amount of entrants go up, new series.... new drivers, new sponsors. The Touring series seems to be doing well, a lot of people are quite into it, and I have to thank the gents at CASC for doing such a fine job.

Well Doug, I hope you get your medical sorted out, but I have a solution!!! Get a cool suit (cooling system), wouldn't that be nice!! a few bucks, but it will certainly keep your body temp down, and your pocket book a wee bit lighter ;) At least the racing goes 'till the Oct 1st weekend right?? you've got PLENTY of time :)

Myron; I have a cool suite, the point I was trying to make is my previous and my current Doctor have concerns of liability if I caused a problem for any reason great or small. They are just extremly paranoid. My first doctor had concerns about my infrequent migraines and 140 over 95 blood pressure when I saw her < white coat syndrome >. This Doctor just liability!!

Yes your correct in pointing out we do get great track time and there is value for the money, but we are talking after tax dollars and most younger racers have other financial commitments to maintain.
