with all the discussion about the state of the sport lately, i thought i would pose the question...what makes a racer?

i consider myself a racer, yet i haven't participated in any sort of competition as a driver since 1995. in fact, from 95 till this summer i had no involvement (other than occasional spectating) with any motorsport at all.

i grew up around race cars, then karts in high school. in my 20's, i actively ran solo 1 & 2, navi rallies & then performance rally. along the way, i usually found a team or two to crew for. then, the real world set in for almost a decade. i still can't afford to go racing myself, but CAN afford for my oldest kid to race karts. so i'm active again, if not driving.

for me, the difference between a racer & a non racer is the continuing desire to get into a car/kart/bike/boat, not if, but when!

I AM ....A RACER

Getting involved! We have a member of our club (he knows who he is) that has been working on his car since he joined the club that has never completed a realistic competition run, because the car isn't read. This car might never be ready BUT, he still comes out to meetings and events and gets involved. He is a racer.

I agree whole-heartedly. The mechanic or engineer that has no interest in driving but wants his car to win every race. Racers.
