Greetings Solo Brethren (and Sistren).

Some of you may have noticed the total absence of my multi-coloured Trailer and the infamous "freakmobile" from the last couple of weekends. (Not to mention my smiling face!)

Well - for a conspiracy of reasons, I have not been able to attend.

During the Mosport weekend - I had to attend a wedding in Edmonton - and during the last Shannonville dates I was in Cayuga, at the drag strip, breaking my center diff.

I will be dropping by this weekend to see you all at Cayuga - but alas - I have chosen not to compete in the event. Before any rumours get started about me being afraind of the competition . . .

Here's a summary of where I am at.

Last fall we started rebuilding the tame street talon into a road track monster. It was my intention to compete in the CASC regional races and use SOLO for testing and set-up. As the year went on - it become obvious that my car would not be ready for regional racing until late, late this year - (far more work, and expense, than I could have ever imagined).

Then a few weeks ago - a funny thing happened. While I was in Edmonton, my mechanic took the Talon to Montreal for a drag race and ran a respectable 11.464 quarter mile. They simply turned up the boost from 15 to 24 and dynoed 420 HP at the wheels. The following week we finally installed the turbo and head (titanium valves, springs, etc) that we had been planning all year and took it to the dyno to amaze even ourselves. - 538 HP at the wheels! WOW. - Without Nitrous!

What that means is that the car has the very real potential to run a 10 second quarter mile and actually compete to be the Fastest Import Car in Canada. Current record is 10.44.

Might even be able to be the first import in Canada to ever hit the Nines.

So I have taken up this challenge - and much of the schedule for the Import Society Drag Series, conflicts with Solo weekends.

To make a long story short - as your friend, co-competitor and series sponsor - my support and thoughts are out there with you and I will be back at some point.

In the meanwhile, I'll be coming to Cayuga on Saturday, on my way to a Drag Race in London, and hope to see many of you.

All the best

Nick Majors
(I live my life a quarter mile at a time - yada yada yada!)

Kick-ass, my friend!

I can only dream of that kind of power until Solo-1 allows me to strap some forced induction onto the Rocket. :(

So I'll have to live vicariously through you. LOL!

Guys,

This drag-racing thing Nick is doing appears to be getting out of hand!

We've gotta find a way of de-programming him -- how about if Blair makes him drive his shiny new yellow 'Vette???

He'd never want to go back to a Talon after that, would he? :p

Certainly the 178 rwhp on my Bimmer doesn't seem to be enuf for him

You know, if he could run a 10.4 with the freakmobile, what would his Cayuga lap time be? Maybe if somebody breaks Nick's current course record (80.757) he'll want to come out and compete!

Nick, you've fallen into the clutches (no pun intended) of the dark side of the force...you've given in to the easy thrill of a straight stretch of pavement a 1/4 mile in length, rather than fighting the good fight on the challenging road courses of Ontario. The evil Lord TurboLust may have won your loyalty for now, but I'm confident that in time you'll see the errors of your ways and return to the peace and harmony that is Solo 1 ;)

All kidding aside, I think it's fantastic that you've discovered the joys of another form of motorsport, though obviously we miss you a great deal at the track with us. I'd actually love to come out to the drag strip with you sometime and watch you go for the record! Do you have a schedule of events you'll be attending so that all your fans from Solo 1 can come on out and cheer you on to a low 10 second run? Or hey, if you need some pit crew babes I look darn good in hotpants and skimply little tank top

See you over the weekend I hope,

Dave

Nick,

Drag racing bad, track racing good. I have been track racing all season with no major (no pun intended) breakage. Last night after lapping I went to run 1/4 miles at the test and tune, after 4 runs I managed 14.882@94.34 and cracked my transmission. Now I will probably miss the rest of the Solo season, drag racing is an evil sport. I wonder what it will run with a new tranny?

Nikki,

I go to Dyno Power Services in Scarborough - it's a great shop - BUT they do NOT have an AWD dyno.

We had to put in a welded viscous coupling and them drop the drive shaft - to make it front wheel drive - then we put it all back together for AWD again.

We've done this 3 or 4 times and it's a real pain - but necessary for race tuning. To my knowledge there are no AWD dynos in Canada.

Then wouldnt the actual power at the wheels be a bit less when its in AWD form??

yeh itd be nice if there were an AWD dyno... i hear there WAS one in montreal.... but its apparently closed or something

Hey Nick your car looked AWESOME running down the 1/4 this weekend but your buddy in the blue RX-7 was really quick. I saw you run the car at Cayuga when you broke the car that really sucked but it was cool to see some one I know out at the track with a real racing beast. Good luck on the record. I also got to see Sean Green with his Slick Performance.com sponsored Rabbit GTI.
