i've got one similar to this (the threaded rod/hook style)

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ct...itemnumber=3980 <http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=3980>

but was searching online.. and was considering this one:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ct...temnumber=43753 <http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=43753>

but now i think I want this one:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ct...temnumber=47890 <http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=47890>

yes its more.. but after changing the struts on a Grand Prix GT
something like this bad boy would make things easier..

anyone seen anything bad about the hydraulic one?

there's a "strap" style as well, that is supposed to be the shizzy.. but way more money

An advantage to the hydraulic one is that the pump can be used for other applications.

The hook and rod compressors are OK for lighter duty, but are not really safe enough for heavier springs. The 'clamshell' type will not usually work on smaller diameter springs, or ones that have a very tight coil spacing(Honda,Neon,etc.). The hydraulic style needs a different diameter 'shoe' to accomodate different diameter springs. That looks like a pretty cheap unit. The Belt style compressor is made in Orangeville, Ontario. I have sold a number of them to garages, used it myself when I was still wrenching, and would recommend it any day for any strut work. If you're interested, I can supply it to you for under 300 Can.(plus tax, sorry).
