I need to know if someone out there can weld cast iron. When we hit the wall last Sunday at Mosport, 2 engine mount bosses were broken off the front of our engine block. I need to get these welded back on/made up and tapped & drilled.
If you can do this or know someone who does please let me know asap. The engine is out of the car & I can bring it to your shop asap.
Let me know perry@mmcg.com

Perry,
I don't think you need to travel all the way to Barrie or Stratford. :D Call around local welders and let them know what you have. The proper procedure is to preheat the cast, then use a ni-rod, which I understand is primarily nickel content to build up the damaged area. The metal should afterwards be packed with pink fiberglass batting allowing it to cool much slower and prevent cracking. The area can be then machined and tapped.
I have had two Supra motor repaired after front end impacts successfully by two different shops in this area - Waterloo. I can put you in touch with them if you don't find this service in your area.
