As the Registrar for the 2002 season, I am looking for ways to improve the system. Please post any suggestions here.

From what I've seen on the other threads, one of the most serious problems has to do with events selling out at the Open House, then people cancelling, leaving vacancies with no-one to fill them.

Some suggestions I've heard include:

- Do what the airlines do - allow overbooking knowing that there will be cancellations
- Limit bookings to 8 out of 14 events
- Give active members priority over newcomers

I was a newcomer last year, and missed the open house. I registered, and was put on the waiting list for almost all of the events, and was able to get into every one I wanted to.

How were you affected by the registration process? What can be done to improve it?

I agree.
Even though I probably don't have much of a right to speak ( I only attended 1 lapping day last year).

Maybe we can differentiate between serious competitors and
people who only attend a couple of events just for fun.
I am building a car right now, but I do not intent to attend all events, because I simply do not have the time.
I think it is wrong that a racer who is planning on running all events does not get a spot because a 'recreational' racer like me blocked an event.

The serious racers should be able to reserve a spot in the events, the rest should be on a first come first serve basis.
Maybe a penalty system can be implemented (no show = no reserved spot on next event or something ?)

Just my 2cts.......

I was guilty of this, but I swear it wasn't my fault. Car troubles. :(

Rob: My experiences with registration were the following:

1) Needing $1200 or so bucks to get charged on my Visa at once during the open house for all the events. Not knowing that before the open house. (Does this have anything to do with chargebacks?)

2) Not knowing I could have brought a cheque book and postdated cheques as an alternative.

3) 12 of 14 Events selling out. 2 remaining at Shannonville. At the open house. Then, as mentioned before, seeing 20-30 competitor shortages at some events. But I was able to secure all 3 lapping day and there were still Solo 1 School spots. But that was quite the commitment to make to Solo 1 without any Events reserved. Uneven distribution it seemed.

I dunno if it applies to you, but I could get into all kinds of on-site registration beefs. But in a nutshell, if you have my money, put me in the grid. Why do I have to be there for 8:30am? Anyone who's read my articles know what I'm talking about. Luckily when I was late one morning, the on-site registrars were kind enough to let me register.
