I spent the whole weekend at my toyota tech buddies place to finally install the MR2 supercharger on the corolla.
I was driving it by 2:30 this afternoon, light rain but breaking the tires loose in 3rd is no problem now-and thats with a total ghetto fuel set-up!
Can't wait till spring, will be lighter, stiffer, more powerfull and have a much improved suspension. Not sure yet if I'll run regional's or not but it should be fun in c-mod next year if I do(unless Brent builds a 700lb 300hp monster!).

The corolla should be a lot more fun now. You might need a real lsd now though.
I will be in dsp with my neon the same as this year. If I build a mod car the 700lb one would be in Amod and it won't be for next season anyway.

Sounds good Tom! Can't wait to see it in action!

If you need any parts for the setup I have a few things... 2 Intercoolers, 2 turbos both are TRD...... various other things toyota....... How about a 3S-GTE motor...... Anyways enjoy your new power..... Corollas are fun......

You haven't blown up my old ice racer have ya?.

Brent a proper diff is being included in the budget for this winters substancial improvements.I'd like to try for an ftd next year since I've never had one at the regional level.

Holliko, maybe you should send me a list of toyota stuff you have in case something interests me;)

No not yet but always good to know where extra parts are.:D

Tom, did you have to change the pistons in order to lower your compression sufficiently for a boosted application?

Nope,I'm running it on the factory 4ag and since its only a 9.4cr it should handle the 8lbs max boost it will see pretty safely. The gze(from where the sc came from)isn't much lower in cr,just uses much better pistons, rods and crank-the drawback is that these parts are all much heavier than the standard 4ag and affects throttle response.Of course it will be tuned with a wide band and use caution with ignition timing to hopefully keep it together.Another bonus is that the 4ag cams are quite abit more serious than the gze ones,so with the cams, lighter reciprocating mass and lack of tvis system it should make about 15hp more than the stock gze.
There's actually a few guys that have done this already, one tuning shop down south even sells a kit to do just this, believe me theres alot to the swap-mostly in plumbing.Believe me it took parts from the mr2,fwd corolla gts and rwd corolla gts just to make the cooling system funtion again-at least its all toyota stuff.

Are you worried about the corolla yet?-jkg:D (if I could get it down to about 1700lbs than you should worry!)

Not that I know anything about Toyotas...

But you don't necissarily want a "serious" cam in a boosted application... right?

Overlap in the cams will lead to boost-pass-through (serious technical term... carrol smith taught me that one)

Higher lift and/or intake duration might be fine... but an aggressive NA cam on a boosted motor might not be beneficial at all!

I did read quite a bit about the conversion....seemed really odd that bolting a SC to essentially the same engine required so many modifications...which is why i am looking for alternatives. Apparently a computer controlled nitrous system is out of the question as that would have been an excellent bang for the $$. I am currently investigating an electric supercharger that requires virtually no plumbing. (it is however, limited to 4-6 psi at the moment).
To answer your other question, I am much more worried about YOU as a driver than the RWD Corolla. IMHO that car makes an excellent drifter but doesn't have the weight balance to transfer enough of your upgraded power to the pavement. Looking forward to you proving me wrong though!:)

I suspect the 'serious' cams of the 4ag aren't that serious by aftermarket standards. If you look at the lift and duration of some of the standard VTEC cams and how well they work with boost...

Question: what supercharger is used on the MR2, and what's it's displacement? Just curious, I've been doing a bit of reading on the Miata forums about the Eaton chargers...

OT:
I'm more familiar with the Domestic (neon:p ) area, and while cams don't provide a very good gain/$ ratio for turbo applications (it's quite possible to make 450+whp on the stock cams....) they DO offer gains, even some of the REALLY aggressive 'all-motor' cams show surprising gains in the high end though boost onset is slower, and low end starts to suffer. This would be with .394 lift, 258deg duration or 'bigger'. (a cam I ended up using for my naturally aspirated Neon..... )

Yes miataboi big cams can let some of that boost you worked so hard to make pass right thru without getting a chance to go bang. The key like you say is with decent lift and relatively conservative duration numbers, the stock cams are very mild so its not hard to make an improvement. The ones I have my eye make 34 whp on a gze with stock boost,header/intake etc.
Toysrus, yes the corolla is light in the rear and putting power down has been a problem especially with the open diff. But with a proper diff and carefull tuning things will be just fine;) ,besides you just keep on lightening the front of that mr2 and we'll see how well it turns:D.Btw I've never had my car on the scales to corner weight/check front to rear balance-but it will be in the spring!.
The only downside with the charger is that its heavy(estimate about 40lbs with bracketry/plumbing/intercooler etc)but at least its on the passenger side of the engine.
Nathan I think the charger is only a 45 cubic inch eaton, not positive however-the later gen jdm fwd corolla gts's used a bigger charger, more boost AND a higher compression ratio to acheive 20hp more.
One hurdle left to clear is which injectors to use,I have the gze ones but they use a different resistance and the non boosted ecu won't like them very much:( ,right now(just to get it running)I have a switch to turn on the charger(it uses an electric clutch-ala ac compressor)and another to turn on the cold start injector which also uses a dimmer switch to control volume.Like I said its very rudimentary-but seems to run surprisingly well(shrugs).

The motor is from an 89 ALLtrac.... rebuilt (head still needs some work) dished pistons..... approx 60000 when rebuilt.... Many other parts including another head.... intake.... etc....
