I have wanted to move into Solo 1 for about a year now.. it did not happen last year as I bought a brand new wolfsberg edt. Jetta 1.8T and was too scared to even take it out to the solo 2 events..
But now I NEED to get back out so... recently bought an 1982 VW scirocco cause it was a really good deal... it has the 1.7L motor, cat back exhaust, eibach springs, a terrible body(oh well less weight!) and will have big fat wheels..
Can someone just tell me now if i will be wasting my time out there with this thing?? If so I will get rid of it and buy something faster before spring comes.
thanks

Pull the springs and try to keep the vehical stock and you should be 'ok'.
The springs will put you into a SS2 class, for that you will need many more modifications to be compeditive. I believe your stock class is C3. CSS2 with springs.
You will be racing things like 87 CRX's, 88-91 CRX SI, 93-95 Civic SI and so on. I would have to say that you might find your self in trouble......but that's if those cars show up. I currently only know of one well driven 89 CRX that will be running in Stock C3 this season and he won't be coming to all the events.
If you are just coming out to learn and get a feel for the track then that car should be fine. Slap some R-Compounds and maybe Shocks and go for it.

The Xiropodis brothers ran an 84 scirocco in C-mod last season. They had it running pretty fast by the end of the season. It was stripped, supercharged and running on racing slicks, so with some work sciroccos can get around a track pretty quick.

Yes, cat-back exhust is accepted in stock.
Jer, drop Pete Mills an e-mail if you want an experienced opinion on the Scirocco. He ran one as an Improved Touring (IT) car in the U.S. for a few years and knows VW's very well. His e-mail address is vwtuner@hotmail.com. Just tell him you're interested in Solo 1 and have a VW and he'll be more than happy to offer his thoughts on your car.
