I have a 91' Accord the original engine was the F22A1 2.2L SOHC. I have swapped in a H22A4 Prelude DOHC VTEC engine. When I had the original engine I was in C3, but when I did the swap The guy with the rule book (Tom), put me into C3 (based it on what the Prelude is classed as). I thought this was very reasonable, because he said the a swap is supposed to be worth 12 Points. But I read in another thread that you can do swap's without getting hammered with lot's of point's. So where am I at now? Am I C1, C3 or worse? The car still is a P.O.S. in the corner's actually mabye wrose because of the xtra wheelspin. I plan on changing all the suspension soon, but just wonder where I am right now. After the suspension, I guess I will be in CSP.
Andretti,
I assume you're talking about Solo 1 classification? I will answer accordingly (no pun intended!).
Although the 90-93 Accord isn't specifically classified in the 2001 rulebook, due to the fact that several model variants in this generation of Accord weigh more than the 2900 lbs. cut-off for C-family, it will inevitably be classified in B-family with all the newer Accords. Though I haven't run the car's statistics through the classification spreadsheet (available for download at www.soloontario.com), I can tell you without a doubt that the 90-93 Accord is a B3 car.
With the engine swap, you will be charged a minimum of 7 prep points and a maximum of 10 prep points. The 7 prep points is for a basic engine swap that does not include any modifications to the engine you've put into your Accord. If you've made any modifications to the H22a drivetrain, such as upgraded cams, pistons, head work, or different intake or exhaust manifolds, these extra modifications will cost you up to a maximum of 3 prep points, at which point you're free to do anything you want to the engine.
In B/SP you've got 15 prep points to work with, so depending on whether or not you've modified the H22a engine you'll have between 8 and 5 prep points left to spend on suspension and/or body modifications. If you exceed 15 prep points, you'd be moved into B-Mod.
Feel free to drop me an e-mail at dpratte4@cogeco.ca if you want to chat more about your car or Solo 1.
Cheers,
Dave
