I have a 88 Jetta GL 4dr 1.8 8v, I have added a cam, header, springs, shocks, upper stress bar and
rear sway bar plus upgraded my rim and tire size.
I would also like to know the cost and fees involved.

Hang tight for a week or two tilll the 2002 rulebook comes out ... then we can give you a more accurate assesment. I would give you a rundown based upon the 2001 rulebook but I cannot find the @$#@$#!@# thing .... It is in my desk some #$%%#%$ where
You are going to take points for cam, header, rear sway bar and three points for the springs so 6 points (shocks and strut bars are free mods in Super Stock) .... so that probably puts you in SS2, and I beleive the 88 Jetta is in C3 .... BUT don't quote me on that ... the rule book is around here somewhere ??????
(Solo 1)
-Basic CASC Licence $50 (in 2001)
-Cost per race $85 (2001)
Other possible costs
-Helmet Snell M95 or better $100+
-Tires $800
-Brake pads $50-$200 depending on what you get
-Look on your buddies face when he goes out for his fisrt ride as a passenger ... priceless
(Solo 2)
-Cost per race $20-30 (2001)
Other possible costs
-Helmet M95 or better $100+
-Tires $800
-Brake pads $50-$200 depending on what you get
Cheers

Yup, I believe Moose is correct in assessing your car as a C3 machine with 6 points in prep which puts it into C/SS2 (where you'd still have 2 prep points to use if you wish).
The 2002 rulebook will be available for download off the official Solo Ontario website (www.soloontario.com) within a few weeks.
Cheers,
Dave

I found a copy of the 2001 RuleBook !!!!
You are a C3 car (root class) in Solo 1 and a B3 car in Solo 2
So in Solo-1 you have
7 prep point in C super-stock 2 (CSS2)
10 prep points in C super-stock 1 (CSS1)
14 prep points in C Street prepared (CSP)
In Solo-2 you have
8 prep points in BSS
14 prep points in BSP
Note, all this will change in 2002, the new rulebook will be available soon.

thanks guys so assuming I am in CSS2. What other cars are in same class?
How many point is for changing my block to 2.0L
1.8--->2.0 and port and polish my head?
My last question is how do they check the car for the mods? Some mods are easy to see but lets say boring up the block is hard to find same goes for P&P!!

Cars in CSS2 that ran last year (to name a few)
Non Vtec Integra's
Civic 's
CRX's
Neon's
Miata's
The level or prep will be determined by the root class that they are in ...for example The Miata's and Integra's(C2) are only allowed 4 points, where the Civics and 8V VW(C3)'s are allowed 7 points.
I think the most competive cars in CSS2 will be the Miata's with suspension upgrades (springs, shocks, and camber).
Proof of Modifications/prep points is based on the honor system, It is self inforced.
However, a competitor can be protested by another competitor and be forced to prove that he/she is not breaking the rules...
In Solo 1 ...
-You can overbore up to 0.040" over when using OE pistons, with out being assessed prep points.
-You can machine the head and block ONLY enough to make it straight, (not to increase compression), with out being assessed prep points
-You can change the short block as longs as the cylinder bore dimentions, and cylinder bore center to center dimentions remain the same ... so if the 2.0L block is a stroked version of the 1.8L then you can ... but you will be assesed 4 prep points. If the Bore size and center to center dimentions are different then you will be assesed the full 7 point engine swap prep points.
-Porting and polishing the head, or anything that increases CR or flow, will cost you 2 prep points
You may want to talk to Pete Mills a long time competitor and VW freak who knows all the tricks in prepping V-dubs. He is TRYING to build up a Golf for 2002 (full suspension with a 160HP 1.8L) ... but we will see if it will be ready for this season : P
