Hi everybody,

Originally I wanted to drive the car once a week during the winter.
The gearbox decided to give up on me and I won't fix it till spring.

Not being to drive the car anymore..
What would be the best way to store it untill March?

Thanks in advance.

Michael

Pour some fuel stabilizer in and run the motor for a few mins. Whether its being stored inside or out it's best to give it a final cleaning, especially underneath if you've been driving around since they've dropped salt. Also take out the battery and add a few extra psi into the tires.

Thanks RegaMaro.
Just bought the fuel stabilizer.
I guess i will inflate tires to specified maximum.

I hoped there are more people who store their race cars for winter.

Should I start the engine couple times and warm it up to a normal temperature or just leave it untill I fix the gearbox in Spring.

Dry starts aren't good - there are misting sprays you can get for the internals which would allow you to just leave it until next year. Have a look on thirdgen.org the storage question has been done to death there on numerous occasions. Change the oil before storing.

Look for fogging oil at Canadian Tire to mist your cylinders.

I disconnect my battery and that is it. In 5 years, I've never had a problem come spring.

I just throw in some fuel stabilizer, top the tank right up, and start it once a month, and let it fully warm up to boil off any condensation in the crankcase, get some oil everywhere it needs to be in the motor, and charge the battery.

That's what I wanted to do, but some people say it is not good for the motor.

My engine builder reccomends it starting it and letting it run up to temp. Considering it circulates the oil, gets rid of any condensation, charges the battery, and flushes the fuel system with fresh fuel, I don't see why anyone would reccomend against it.

I can tell you from personal experience, that just parking the car and letting it sit for the winter without either starting it once a month, or fogging the engine with oil is a bad idea.

We pulled the heads on the race motor out of my Dart which sat for each winter for two years and there was minor pitting and a mark on all the bores at the level where the pistons sat for each winter and condensation gathered. Each bore had two marks - one from each winter.

Thanks, I will start the engine couple times to let it reach normal temp.

Back in Summer there was a post about reliable place to repair, rebuild your gearbox.

Anyone knows what is the name of this place or where this is?
I am pretty sure it was in the GTA area.

Thanks,
Michael.
