Hey Guys just trying to cover all my bases before its too late.
I want to run my car in the solo1 events this spring. What do I have to do and where do I get the licenses to run. And what organizations to I have to register with?

I have a 1993 Honda Prelude SR. If I read the rules correctly I have to have a helmet and 4-Point seat belt in my car, Are there any other modifications I have to make to run. I don't don't really have any modifications other than a short ram air intake and a muffler.

And finally, I plan on attending this sundays solo 2 what time are the events usually over by?

Thanks see everyone on sunday

Hi Spinner,

Glad to have you aboard!

You are correct about the helmet, and you only need a 3 point seat belt unless you have a roll cage, in which case, a 5 point harness is required.

You should plan on coming out to our Open House at CSC Racing on April 3rd. You can register there, and ask any questions on car classification and see how things work.

Basially, you require a CASC Basic license, which costs $50. To qualify for the license, you need to belong to a CASC Affiliated club. Smart, good looking people join TAC. You can sign up here! (http://www.casc.on.ca/addMember.php?selectedClubID=1)

You should consider doing at least one of our driving schools. The first runs on May 7/8 at Mosport DDT.

Your mods may cost you a couple of points, and that may affect your class. I'm sure Dave Pratte will chime in with some details.

The series is simple to get in to, but too addictive to leave. If you are serious, the only additional thing you should consider is wheels and R-Compound tires. You should talk to our sponsor, Wheel & Tire Zone.

See you at the track!

Hey Thanks for the help guys, I just have one or two more questions I need clarification on, In the rule book it says you can't have a four point harness in a car without a roll cage?? Is this correct? I was planning on buying a four point harness and racing seat. I was going to mount the harness to the rear seat belt mounts? In regards to the tires won't putting an R rated tire put me in the modified class or am I just getting my tires mixed up?

tires won't move you to the modified class...

mountingt he belts to the rear seat belt mounts is the incorrect way of doing it. basically there would be incorrect geometry in the belts that could increase the chance of serious injury in a collision. without a roll bar or cage it's best to use the stock seat belt.

Also, since you have a Prelude, you really should join the best club in the GTA: HADA (http://www.hadamotorsport.com)

We almost swept the Solo 1 series this year.

If you run full race slicks, yes you go to modified. Almost everyone else runs R compounds of one type or another.

Ah yes. I see the confusion. Slicks put you to Modified Class, which means you need a roll cage, which means you need a harness (4 or 5 point).

There is a difference between racing slicks and R-Compound tires. R Comps have a tread, so they are street legal. The tires are so soft, the tread will likely be gone after one or two weekends, but at least they are street legal when you buy them.

Typically people use Yokahama A032, Toyo RA-1, or Kumho Victoracers. There are only a handful of tire places that carry these lines - sponsor Wheel & Tire Zone and Tireworks being 2.

A 4 point belt without a cage/bar could be a problem unless the belt system is DOT approved. The problem is safety in a roll-over situation. If the roof is crushed, your head needs to be able to move to the side. I used Schroth 4 point belts that had a break-away section that would lengthen one of the straps and allow your upper body to move. Without that, you are essentially trapped as the roof comes down on you.

I got mine from HMS Motorsports somewhere in the north-eastern US.

TAC in 2005!

So do I race with the factory belts???
As for which clubs to join I havn't really looked around. I am attending the wosca solo II event on sunday. It would be easy for me to just join while I am there!

Honestly Spinner, you should take a look at the CASC web site. Each club is listed there, and you can read about all of them - then join TAC.

Spinner, OMSC ( Oshawa Motorsport Club) will be having a Solo 1 information night at the Whitby Yacht club on the first Tues of March. This is an information only night for new folks to Solo 1 and is designed to allow lots of questions re Solo 1 and what is needed to get involved and run etc. It is not to be confused with the Open House at CSC in April which is for registration purposes. More details to come later.

BTW plan to take the May School. It is a "Bargoon"
