View Full Version : Turbo Reliant Classification

Hey all. I have just lined up a 89 Reliant for the Spring. This is going to be my dedicated racecar. Here is my question. Since I am into all things Dodge Turbo, what classification would I be put in if I Turboed the Reliant, rather than running the factory N/A powerplant? These cars never came Turbo from Ma' Mopar, however, there are rumours about a few fleet turbo's getting out.

I plan on gutting the car, and making it totally race-oriented. If there will be no difference in class based on the severity of the modifications, I will Turbo it.

Thanks all.

Matt it almost sounds like you will be in a mod class.
A lot of it depends on what other mods you are going to do like suspension and stuff.
best to look at the solo 2 rules and decide from there.
basicly there are 4 classes
stock, 1or 2 mods
superstock 3 or 4 mods
street prepared about 10 mods and then modified
each class has a restriction on the number of mods and type,.
best we go over it in person

Thanks again, Tony. We will definately have to go over that over a Timmies. (Or whatever you like)

I just D/L'ed the rules and regs to read. 41 pages.. Great bathroom reading.. ;)

Thanks again, and I will be in touch.

With the turbo engine swap it would go strait to B mod no?.

Go ahead and give b mod a try-it'll be fun, really!;)

To be in the hunt you'll need to give the suspension a good work over and get the weight under 2000lbs.

Seriously it won't matter what close you prep to as there is guys in every class that will keep you on your toes for competitive times-trust me as I've run agaisn't most of them.

Keep the stock engine and add FI to it, plus suspension mods. That should take you to FSP...

Muahahahaha!! Come to FSP please. ;)

Sorry to disapoint you dude, but I won't be there. Since I'll be running a performance rally car in addition to all my solo activities, I won't be able to afford to be competitive in SP this year. I've already got my solo 2 car, but it's going to stay stock at least until '06. So I'm gonna have some fun is HS this year.

Edit: but don't worry. I bought this car with the intention of dominating FSP. I haven't given up on that dream just yet.;)

I think by rebuilding the engine with lower compression pistons, then adding a turbo, it should be able to stay within SP points limit. But i could not see any listing for aries or reliant for base class...could be an FSP car...

Wouldn't that hurt...explaining to your friends how a k-car kicked your butt...

Fortunately, it would not be that complicated..

I have a few Turbo Motors laying around here.. Common Block, and Non-Common Block. All Factory Dodge motors.

They are the exact same motors as the TBI motors, with the exception of compression, exhaust valves, and pistons. (And ofcourse manifolds)

And that is why I want to do it.. :) Love the look on people's face when I pull hard on their LS1's with my Daytona.

...then just do it! Who cares about class, just make it the way you want and have fun!

I would love to see a real sleeper like that.

Thanks for all the information, guys. I can really see I can trust you guys (gals) for anything I need until I get in the swing of things!!!

Great bunch of people!

Mods, you may delete this if you like.

Thanks!

when it comes to FI cars, if ur car is 1.428 liters or under, it's in c-mod, otherwise it goes in d-mod.

Actually, there is one more thing for which I am curious.. How many cars run in D-Mod vs FSP? I don't want to only have 4 cars in a class.. :) Would much rather finish 7th out of 20 than 2nd out of 5....

Thanks again!!

Have a look at last years results:
http://www.solo2ontario.com/events/2004results.php

FSP would be a great class to compete in!

6 of one half dozen in the other???

According to last years results in Dmod there was 3 people that showed up at various events to compete regionally. None of them completed a full season in D mod.

As for FSP, 5 people competed 4 of which did a full season...

It's not the quantity of competitors that counts, it's the quality!
If you can set times that come anywhere near the top guys in FSP, you're having a great day indeed! I speak from experience.

Good night... As soon as I think I have a plan layed out, you guys go and make me rethink... ;)

Who knows? I may just run FSP for a year, then gut the car in the "Off season" to run D-mod..

Sound like a plan? I would assume itis better to get use to a car stock, THEN mod it, than jumping right into a modded car.. Ofcourse they will drive night and day, anyway...

Either way, Tony.. We need to get together and have a Coffee.. Or maybe 4 or 5....... LOL

Thanks again guys.. Quick response...

Yeah, there was hardly anyone in DMod last year... should be a couple more this year (I can think of a fiero and a swapped Subaru or two at least)

Last year's FSP winner placed 12th overall (out of about 58 who did the minimum 6 events) FSP Runner up (me) came in 26th.

No-one in D mod did more than 3 events.

Come to FSP, we've lost at least one, maybe two drivers for next year.
