I know I should wait a bit and find out what the 2002 rules say, but does anyone know what class Cobra replicas have been placed in for Solo 1 and 2 in Ontario in the past?
I have a Factory Five 427 Roadster with a supercharged small block. I've run a few events in the U.S. and have been placed in AP in the ones run by the SCCA rules.
TIA for any info,
John

I WAS JUST READING THE ON LINE RULES YESTERDAY AND IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOUR QUESTION WAS ANSWERED IN THOSE RULES. I CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH PAGE IT WAS ON, BUT IF YOU GO TO http://www.swbs.com/2001Regs.pdf you'll find your answer.

Thanks Rick. It looks like a Modified class, if they consider all Cobra replicas to be lumped in with the Aurora, but it doesn't indicate whether it's Open, A, B or ?.
I hope that it doesn't mean Open Modified, as that's pretty much the same as saying "don't bother"!

IF I WERE YOU I WOULD NOT ADOPT THAT ATTITUDE. IF YOU ARE PLACED IN THE OPEN MODIFIED CLASS I WOULD CLOSELY EXAMINE THE RULES AND PREPARE THE CAR TO WITHIN A MILLIMETER OF THE ALLOWABLE MODIFICATIONS WHICH WOULD MAKE YOU MORE THAN COMPETITIVE.
YES / NO ?

John,
I want you to compete just so I can see your car.

Thanks Brent. There are a number of them in So. Ont. now and I'm hoping that I can get a few of the others to come out too.
Rick - Been there, done that. It gets a little old seeing yourself listed last by huge margins behind a gaggle of Formula cars and tube framed series machines. No preparation or skill development is going to make up the difference between true racing machines and a street legal car, and that can kill motivation. I don't need to be first, in fact that's not likely, but I do need to be competitive. I'll have to give it a try and see how it shakes out.
cheers,
John

I believe you will be in A mod, at least that would make sense. Anyway it seems Joe Smiley is going to be your only competitor. But if you get enough Cobra's to compete then it may not matter what class your in sense they will be your only real competition.

I'm used to being shown the quick way by big nasty Vettes!
I had an opportunity to run at the American Muscle Car Team Challenge, put on by the Sacramento Region SCCA in May of last year. They had about 40 Vettes, 20 Vipers and 20 or so Cobra replicas running on a 60 second course set up to allow the use of all that 'merican HP. Several current and former regional and national champs showed up. They put us on teams of four, trying to distribute the car types and skill levels as much as possible. Except for one Cobra that took FTD (not mine!), the Vettes pretty much ruled at that event.
thats why the MOD class should only be true race cars...and SP the highest level for street nased machines..thats my opinion...
dave...whats your thoughts

Yeah, Joe has accumulated a number of FTDs over the past years. He is a great easy going type of guy off track,on track....i think he would really like to see some more competition in his class and a well driven Cobra would be just the ticket. The racing is only half the equation. The people and combined knowledge in this series is more than worth the price of addmission.First or last you are going to come out of it a better allround driver.
My point being:
Come out and give it a try.
