Doug According to the STLAC schedule they ran a club event at Picton in September. Maybe they'll do the same in '05?

Or maybe the regional series will use the Picton lot more than once this year?

good lord i hope not. its a tire chewer deluxe.

and hopefully the course layout will be 500x better this year - they have enough real-estate for it!

Picton is lots of fun, good mannered organizers and fast. Now if they can only learn how to make the course flow better, then it would be as close to utopia as any solo2'er could get.

Here's a teaser bout Picton with lots of pictures. Just something to think about while waiting for the hands of time to click by until the first date comes to bear.

I've never driven the Picton course myself, but judging from the size of the venue and other discussions about it, I sure hope I can try it out this year!

The Headlines would read:

"Cordiero Does It Again"

Forces organizers to delay the start of the season by 1.5 hrs. Cordiero, a frequent competitor in the CASC-OR series has been known to be fashionably late. He was once accused of being late to his own birth. But that's another story.

Yep, he's late again!!

We will be getting a bunch more cones this year, so we can go bigger. Not to make it a sea of cones, but to at least get a few more gates going.

The Air Cadets have the field booked for all of June/July and most of Aug. There will be an event in Sept like we have done the last few year. Normally our last event. Last sept we had a dozen guys from Ottawa come out. Good time.

As the new Competition Director for the Club, I'll make sure it flows. And monitor things. Especially if I don't have to do timing. We will have several extra 'Competitor Conduct' rules this year too ;)

It'll flow, but still keeping the speed down to the regs. A few years back for an event we did for the Subaru meet in Kingston, I got a bit carried away, and the speeds were ludicrous. One guy said they have never spun out in a solo2 doing 120......

Thanks for accepting the input. The guy you're talking about was a rookie. (Silver WRX) The rules this year requires all series comptitors to be a part of a CASC approved club.

What's being encouraged is that rookies begin their obsession at the club level, and to elevate the regionals as a "Step Up", or someplace to move onto once they become proficient at the club level.

What's the point I'm trying to make:

1) Stick by the rules, yes, but lower gears on a 6 speed means 1-2-3 or < than 110K (SCCA ish)

A special request:

Smooth Flowing, high speed, within the rules, will increase the "Fun Factor" of the "Special Treat" picton event.

You guys are extremely lucky, there's no obstacles, there's complete visibility, no chance of rogue vehicles driving through the course.

For the Subaru Crew, we always look at Picton as the "Icing" on the already great cake. Now if we can only eat that same cake, it would be utopia.

If you need more cones, we'd be happy to bring up our 150 Cones for the day, absolutely free.

Thanks again.

4.4.U

U. Maximum Speed Considerations
The course shall be designed such that the maximum
speeds on any straight section shall not normally exceed
110km/h for the fastest stock, super stock and street
prepared category cars. The fastest portion of the course
shall be the most remote from spectators and property.
There shall be no straight longer than one hundred (100)
metres. Turns should not normally allow speeds in excess of
70kp/h for the fastest stock, super stock and street prepared
category cars.

Great excerpt... That actually means you can design corners that can be taken at 2nd or 3rd gear for some cars. It's been a long time coming, we're looking forward to the day when people actually exploit those rules and use them accordingly.

Lock to lock turns are getting a little too old. BTW: @ 110 kph, i'm at 4th gear.

Bring it On!!!

Woohoo.

seriously??? thats some really short gearing you have...

at 100 kph I'm at the top of second at 110kph I'm into 3rd...

however being in the slowest class I should never get those those speeds...

but I wanted to point out that it said 110kph for the fastest Stock, Super stock and Street prepared cars... so we assume that Street prepared is the fastest of those then it becomes the limiting factor. so if they are doing 110kph on a section of the course then a Mod car should be able to go that much faster still

Yup, I've kinda changed "final drive" ratios for this year.

In the previous gearbox, I could go up to 120 ish on 3rd, but this gearbox, I'll be lucky to hit 100 or 110 in 3rd. 4th and 5th are overdrive gears, well almost.

It will be quicker this year, out of the hole. No more bogging waiting for power to build up. Now all I have to do is to quicken the steering rack and I'll be happy.
