I'm going to try to take my 5 year old son to Minden this weekend to see the racing. He's been wanting to go since I told him about ice racing last winter. Having never been there before, I have some questions:
1. Is there an admission charge?
2. Is there anywhere to get inside for a while to warm up?
3. Are there concessions to buy food?
4. Are there grandstands?

1. NO....absolutely free
2. Snack Bar....hotdogs, coffee, hot chocolate, donuts.....
3. See #2
4. Yes there are...not are from the entrance to the fairgrounds...but we do have "natural snowbanks" surrounding the entire track.

Everybody is pretty friendly at the track and you can watch the races from just about any place you really want, but I would have to advise you to dress really really warm. It's hard to enjoy the racing when all you can think about is your cold toes. Don't rely on the snack bar to keep toasty. Rule of thumb: if you think you have dressed warm enough, put on another two layers and you should be good.

It's worth wearing ski googles on windy days ;)

A good rule is too wear shoes or boots in the car on the way over and change into different boots when you get there. have made this mistake before and paid the price (freezing toes)

I usually do that in winter any way because I hate driving wearing boots.
Thanks for the replies to my original post. My son and I had a great time on Saturday. I took some photos and posted them on my web site at: http://www.canadianracer.com/iceracing-050129.asp
