and from their newsletter:

H ello, people! It’s the end of January and time for an update as to what will be happening for OMSC’s Solo2 scene this year. First thing, we are not going to try and conquer any mountains this year.

We have tried to schedule some events in the past couple of years, but the small turnout and difficulties in finding organizers don’t justify the efforts. Motorsport in Ontario seems to have an event of some kind every weekend from May on, and our venue on the skidpad at the DDTcertainly doesn’t have people flocking our way.

We have also received criticism from the Solo community about our lot, some justified, some not. In our solo world of shrinking lot opportunities, sometimes we have to make do. Truth is, though, the motorsport enthusiasts of the present age tend to be a tough lot to please so it is time to take the game up a notch.

Rather than try to schedule a few OMSC Solo2 events this year, we are going to concentrate on one, our stop on the Solo2 Regional Series. To ensure we have a good venue, we are planning to hold our event on the Mosport DDT.We plan to use the original kart track with all the tight pieces and will add chicanes and pylons to keep within the Solo2 guidelines for maximum speed, etc. We will also ensure that it is safe for novice and seasoned competitor alike.

We are currently in contact with Wes Tanney, the Solo2 Director, to secure our date. Tentatively, it is Saturday, June 11th. Folks, if we get the OK, this will be a large undertaking. We will need some people in key positions to ensure everything runs like clockwork. The plan is for OMSC to supply our own marshals to eliminate pedestrian traffic on the track. This will also allow us better control of the event and penalty scoring, as well as the ever-important flagging function that an on-track event will require.

Starting now, I will be asking members to volunteer their services for this important event. We have the opportunity to stage the premier event of the Regional Solo2 series and have to step up to the plate. We have the best people in the CASC-OR and will have the chance to prove it. Let’s get behind it. If you can lend a hand, call me at (905)895-2575 or email me at jeffann@rogers.com. Solo 2 Report... Jeff Christie
