View Full Version : Give Them Help!
I find it interesting to read various accounts of the back markers/rookies causing problems with the "fast guys/gals". Over many years of being involved with Kart racing we found that the best way to deal with this was to help the newbys get up to speed. If you see someone who is obviously struggling I think that it's up to the "experts" - LIKE YOU to offer help. Some of you would be amazed by the lack of knowlege by some of the newcomers and how much they would appreciate some help. Larry does an excellent job training the rookies but it doesn't stop there.
Keep in mind that a backmarker no matter how slow you may think that they are may be on the ragged edge of their present abilities and can't just "get out of the way" without ending up in the bank.
I've had an unusual experience I think over the first two weekends. From lapping people the first weekend to finishing last! (Help!!!) I really didn't have any issues with the cars that I lapped the first weekend but did mess up at least one car lapping me last week. I overcooked the corner and hit him - my fault 100%. Fortunately he survived and accepted my appology with grace.
Anyway - many thanks to Andy, Scott and Crusher and his BARC friends for their help.
PS-Horn-ban it or we will all get one!

The 1st thing I'll say is that I'm glad you have the courage to go and plead your case with the other driver you hit.Personally that means more to me than just about anything, between my wife(who only ran on sunday)and I I'd guess we were hit from behind around 8 or 9 times this past weekend. The only guy to explain what happened was Majik-he missed the brake pedal at the end of the strait and gave me a good one,and he met me as I was coming into the paddock.A guy in a siver golf tagged us real good into 1,I went and spoke with him after-he had no clue he'd done anything out of the ordinary. He actually said "oh you were ones I hit and straitened out",if he hadn't hit us we simply wouldn't have needed "staitening out".
The single biggest thing any of us should be trying to do is simply holding some kind of line, I know that line is as varied as the cars/drivers themselves but ....
I have the redish dodge colt in class 2(#34),feel free to stop in and if I can help in any way I'd be happy too.
Just to clarify what we were saying in earlier posts, it's not the speed of some of the backmarkers, it's their actions. I have absolutely no problem with someone who holds their line through a corner, that makes it easier to predict what they're going to do, and actually makes it fun to try and get around them. It's the aggressive all-over-the-track-but-still-slow types that do the damage.
As far as getting the rookies and backmarkers up to speed, that's why we have the experienced drivers take the rookies for rides at lunchtime.

One 10 lap rookie school is going to get them up to speed?????
I think what CCTF is getting to, is that instead of just giving the "rookie" SHIT offer some help along with it. (car handling, tips)
In my rookie years of kart racing there were too many people to count on one hand that helped me every week with race set-ups , driving hints/tips, tire presure, ect. And once I made it to the top I (family) tried to do the same for new racers.

What about the part where Rookies are to buy "beverages" at the rock for the experienced drivers?
They don't mention that... :)

Just to clarify, there's a big difference between a rookie who is still learning, and a person driving in a out-of-control manner.

Dave, It will not be used in a signal fasion, as we were un aware of that regulation, one that i guess will be implemented into the 2006 rulebook i assume.
So everyone knows, the switch is located on the passenger side of the car, and intended for humor only, even you (Crusher) pulled us over to have a good laugh at it..
Thanks for letting us know, It was fun while it lasted!

Yes it was fun but we have to consider our neighbours...I am still waiting for my large coffee and ham and cheese on rye.

i'll get right on that.....haha
So you know the horn is 80dBA, 6dBA less than the tolerance for exhaust systems, Not to argue the regulation, if it's banned, it's banned, but in our defense we installed it as it was under the set noise restriction, and thought would be very humorous.
Thanks Dave for clearing everything up, I think everyone had a laugh from it.
I thought it was hilarious and had a good laugh. But the fun-police always take away everyones fun these days. I hope I still know how to have fun when I'm 75....
