I won't be there this year. Maybe in 2006 I'll have the funds...
But there will be a new Paseo running in FSP, and it will be much faster than my old one. The driver is still a novice, but I think he's learning very fast.

i'm driving a brand new (well, its 21 years old, but it's new to me) car next year - i expect a massive learning curve.
i'm sure you'll do fine!

Russ, there are 2 more SPDA guys co-driving another turbo Legacy this year too. That makes at least 9 of us...
Joe (Legacy)
Tod (Civic)
Ivano (Legacy)
Mau (Legacy)
SuperDave (Protege)
Russ (Golf/Jetta)
Kerry (Legacy)
John (626)
??? (Paseo)
Any other Protege guys? Jeremy?,
Jason, you gonna admit to anything?
Andrew, anything to add?

This should be fun. Back home I'd generally only be competing against one or two other cars in FSP. Are most of you guys fully prepped in SP?

i'm up to 13 points. with those last 2 , not sure if i'll do a wee bit more weight savings or what. there's so many things that are "free" in SP that cost "unfree" $; It can be an expensive or humbling class to be in. i pick humbling, cuz i'm just not spending much this year :)

You'll have your hands full...
Some of these guys are maxed with suspension AND power (turbos).
Best of luck!
It'll be fun!

Me too... I'm only up to 8 pts, and there's even a lot of stuff I could do within those 8 pts to improve the car, but I'm trying to save my money for a miata, so I need to hold off spending on this car.
If I was really serious I'd probably be better off pulling some stuff off the car (throttle body and motor mounts would probably do it) and running in FSS but that's no fun. I could gut it too, but it is my daily...

Sounds like it! miataboi, you have/had a 626 as well, am I right? I think I tried to by a set of Hoosiers off you last year, and you mentioned that...

As far as I know Jeremy is staying in FSS this year.
Shit I'm gonna get beat down! I'm not gonna even be close pts limit wise. I can't afford to much this year :( Stupid college.

i'll let you guys enjoy this list. i have a pretty light car goin' on.
there's free stuff in SP, so none of that is listed, not that i'm actually *doing* everything that's free.
FSP
Race seat, no passenger 2
Bumpers 2
Interior 2
Fire Extinguisher -1
suspension 3
Engine Poly Mounts 2
Gutting hood 1
Remove All Lights 2
that's 13. so, uhh, 2 more to go. more weight savings? i guess i could gut the doors ;)

I would start removing windows before gutting the doors. Glass is much heavier.
But then again, if you claim 2 more points for engine mods, then you can do just about anything you want to the engine (except turbo or manifolds). Throw some cams in there, adjustable pullies, etc. You can't go wrong with making more power!
spoonie
02-05-2005, 09:19 PM

My car is fairly well prepped, not using too many points though (thank God there are so many free mods in SP)
DC Header - 2 pts
Koni / GC Suspension - 3 pts
Light Flywheel - 2 points
Rear Swaybar - 1 pt (not installed yet)
JDM LSD (lower geared) Tranny - free
Integra Brake swap - free
Powerslot Rotors / Williams Pads - free
Stainless Lines - free
Strut Bars - free
Energy Bushing Kit - free
Short Shift - free
Smaller Steering Wheel - free
Camber kit - free
Intake / Exhaust - free
15x7 Kosei K1 - free
Toyo R Compounds - free (Kumho 710 on order)
do I get negative points for my big ass spoiler, sub box, amplifiers and Full Size Optima Yellow Top battery?
Look out for last year's class winner though, he'll never admit it but his car is a MONSTER! Looks like we have plenty of Legacies to deal with...

The glass is actually relatively light,I've never found huge savings by removing it(the windsheild is the heaviest piece and the one that should remain glass),the only good thing about removing/replacing with lexan is the weight savings are up high so its good for reducing the cg.
The door bars and internal structure is a good souce of weight removal, the doors on my corolla weigh 65lbs with glass and no int. panels.I expect my new doors to weigh under 10lbs each, around 100lbs total savings-niiice!
Spoonie I would add an lsd in there,I realize its a free mod and if you can aquire one it will be the single biggest improvement you will make.If you can't afford one I'd suggest removing the front bar and running a larger rear bar,the rear bar will transfer some load onto the inside front.

lsd = big $. this year its all about budget racer.
removal of front -on this car, that would do more bad than good, contrary to all things normal in the universe. (something to do with the cars rigidity, or lack of it)
the doors on this car weigh a crapload w/ the internals gutting them may be worth the weight savings. keep those free tips coming!

i'm sure you'll find that removing the front bar will actually help you around the corners in your new autoxer. Try it on back to back runs with it connected and disconnected. The front bar actually makes u push more in a corner and doesn't allow the car to turn in as easily. Take it off, trust me. btdt.
also, why spend 2 points on stiffer engine mounts? Those points could be spent better in other places...
spoonie
02-07-2005, 05:30 PM
where would you use them? more weight savings? i'm thinking "free" things, as in, dont cost me $.
andrew1984
02-07-2005, 05:47 PM
actually, i think the swaybar provides quicker initial turn-in but less overall grip.

02-07-2005, 06:48 PM
Unhooking the swaybar to test on back to back runs is an ok idea but the problem is without the bar the spring rate needs to go up to provide the total front roll resistance.
Without bumping the front springs up when removing/unhooking the bar it should understeer more due to bodyroll induced camber changes. It will take a little time to find the right combo,I'd spend some time asking the right tuners their thoughts on the bar/no bar debate.
Oh and know all too well how expensive a decent lsd can be,the corolla should have had one years ago-chalk it up as a learning experience.:o
If you were running a honda you could get an lsd tranny from jdm suppliers relatively easily!.;)

Well since its clear now with my Prep point Turbo question, Shawn is my name and I will be running in FSP with my paseo.
Still hammering out the whole point thing as you can tell from the prep point turbo thread.
This is my first year so please take it easy on me. I'm a very fragile person emotionally and can't stand to lose. In fact if that happens I will cry and no one likes to see a grown man cry, right…?
To complete the list:
Joe (Legacy)
Tod (Civic)
Ivano (Legacy)
Mau (Legacy)
SuperDave (Protege)
Russ (Golf/Jetta)
Kerry (Legacy)
John (626)
Shawn (Paseo)

Are you offering? Perhaps I could arrange a trade-off with someone... One event, both run FSP, next event both run HS.
