View Full Version : Race fuel in the Kingston area?

Our Formula SAE team needs 100 octane race fuel for our single-cylinder turbo... I was wondering if anyone knew of the availability of race fuel in the kingston area. We need it pretty soon too... Thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond!
info on the engine and the manufacturing process of the car:

You could try the Kingston airport for 100LL Avgas. I understand that it has a MON of about 105. Most airports are very reluctant to sell fuel into anything but an aircraft so be prepared to talk nicely and make a compelling argument to someone in charge.

thanks for the suggestion. I think our main engine guy is going up there today. he's still skeptical of using the avgas in our engine, but we might give it a try while we keep a close eye on all the pertinent guages. :)

they may be able to get you some fuel in Kemptville...
or try emailing vp racing in ontario
just make a trip to compitition fuels in mississauga
they have 114 unleaded there..i use it all the time...its good stuff smells nice too :)
PS looks like you are haveing some turbo troubles with your build up....
with your EGT issues what timing are you running?

thanks for all the suggestions. We needed something in the area because we couldn't afford the time to go elsewhere. We needed to have the engine off the dyno by tuesday (ie. a day ago) because the school needed it for a course. We weren't able to get any fuel within a day or two from my first post, so they started dismantling it.
as for the specifics of EGTs, etc, I am not too sure on those, as I don't spend as much time down in the dyno room as some of the other guys.
anyway, thanks again. :)

Malcom, I know from experience in Western's SAE team that 110 and up is VERY easy to find and 100 is very hard to find. what many people here probably here don't realize is that 100 Octane is fully road legal unleaded fuel. Nobody retails it but it is available. The problem is that smallest quantity we could by was a 50 Gallon drum (which takes a long time to use up on an SAE dyno). Hence we never made the switch.
Race gas (114 octane) can be had at almost any race track (Contact Shannonville and ask), price by the gallon.

Marsh, thanks for the info. I'll talk to the engine guy and see what he thinks. :)

I have bought 98 octane many times from Ontario Competition fuels in Mississauga. is this close enough to 100? it works great in my turbo audi at 25 psi in overboost mode.
