I could'nt believe that the white Talon came out of this past weekend relitivly unscathed ....
On untractionized tires!!

yeah....i was surprised also...but at the same time....not really....there was a good amount of grip for us 4wd guys.
heck...some of us were running like 3 year old blizzaks!!

Well some of the class 2 guys, (shall remain nameless), were running 6 year old Sears Roadhandlers!!! :D

Whats with the bank thing! ...every time you and Todd hit the bank you visibly slowed to a crawl ... It wasnt exit speed you were after it seemed like "position" at the exit! ...

Scott, Ian and myself were flipping a coin to see who would put the first donuts on the doors of the Talon.
The Volvos have those wide bumpers that stick out past the body, so it would be tough to get at it.
They figured I should do the honours since my front tires stick out the most.
Then we figured, we'd leave it up to one of the other 4 wheelers,
I figure Adam would be a good candidate.....or perhaps Chris could get him also...... :)
It cannot get out, without at least a little christening, otherwise, he''ll end up putting it back on the road.....I think that will be a hot car with a little TLC....TD

I had half a lap in the first race for the first donut on the side. I lost. I think everyone lost in that pool. I saw Tony take his ride home but I think it will be back next year.

I heard rumour going around on about a $100 reward for the first person to place their "signature" on the Talon. Sounded tempting, but due to some brain fade under breaking on Saturday, I think there might have been too many eyes on me to cash on in. Besides, Tony seems like a nice guy, so I figure we should let the icy banks make their marks first!

dammit..100 bucks?!?!.....i was close to coming up to lap him both races...but decided to stop pushing, since i had a good lead.....
how come no one informed me of this rewards!!!!!!

First, I would like to take a minute and thank all for putting on a great event.
The Talon came out without a scratch.:D even with hitting the banks a few times.
Then again, its hard to get hit running WAY in the back. :p
I bought the car about a year ago, and was debating if I was going to put on the street or use it for parts.
Came out to the event the BARC was putting on, and from that point I knew what the faite of the car was going to be.
Man I have lots to learn on how to Ice race.
1. I had a major problem with not knowing where the front wheels were pointed.
2. how do you get the backend to come around
3. tire pressure ( I guess 30 psi is bad)
4. knowing when to brake
5. etc, etc, etc.
Also I want to say sorry to Larry (orange Datsun I think) I was kinda blocking him. Didn't realize he was racing for points.
One more thing, I know talk to quite a few of you guys but I can't remember names for the life of me, so don't be please don't be pissed if i mention you by you car/number and not by your name.

A piece of tape wrapped around the top of the steering wheel when the tires are pointed forward helps.
3. tire pressure ( I guess 30 psi is bad)
If you are running unmodified Blizzaks...this is a good starting point. Up here where we run most drivers are running about 35-38 in the front and 38-40 in the rear in FWD cars (opposite for RWD cars). Since we don't allow AWD in rubber to ice I can't suggest a pressure set up, however we've found that higher pressures work much better with the Blizzaks.
As of your other questions. Hard to say. Personally, I wouldn't be trying to get the back end to come around as much. Rather I'd drive the corner much as you would with the car in a "normal" situation. AWD cars, as a general model, tend to understeer through the start of a corner; then drift past the apex and through the rest of the corner. Your biggest issue with AWD and rubber to ice is getting the power down onto the ice with as little amount of spin as possible.
Again, we run a little bit of a different series up here, but the theory is the same.

Hmmm...35 - 38 psi. you say, on stock Blizzacks- wow what a difference tractionizing a tire makes.
most drivers here run 16 - 22 psi in the fronts on a FWD car and 35-40 psi in the rear to loosen the car up.
As Andy / Champ 98 says- ice racing really is a "black art"

Well Andy don't be confused, it's like this...when the bitch don't want to turn, you got to give it some help. As for the slowing down part, I'm not sure of that. On Saturday, using the slingshot around the base of the bank we went from 13th to first and by a hefty margin to boot. On Sunday, my Honda, which by the way is a "non handling" pig made it's way up 4 or 5 positions. In the last race on Sunday when we went from 5th to 13th by turn one, using the base of the banks to get a good launch for a late apex worked to our advantage providing what we needed to finish fourth. Yes fourth, we passed both the Festivas, George's CRX and we left Carol behind too. So if I gotta use the bank sometimes to move up and finish well, so be it.
See you this weekend and we'll be going at it all over again.

Well as long as they stay in the rule book and never make it onto the track then bank running is a viable option....
You thinking of bringing them out for the TAC weekend???

Purple Flag?
I guess i could look it up in the rule book, but I'll someone answer for all the other newbies and future ones to know.;)
Well it won't matter to me cause the Talon is out for the rest of the year.
Even though the car had little or no traction in the turns it hooked up pretty good in the straightaway. Well I thought it did.

Since I think I'll make a return this weekend I'd love to see the purple flags out,too much possible carnage with guys bouncing off banks back out into the action.

hahaha purple flags... now those are a complete joke.. i thought we got those taken out.. since they make absolutely no sense because they don't even stick out a full car width.. lets hope my dad doesn't see this post.. he loves the purple flags hahahaha

Todd,
For the life of me I can't figure out why you would post a picture of you backing into me in a corner. At least you didn't do too much damage to my car. Thank God I was able to get by you on the right and pass you!
See you this weekend...bring it on brother!

I can't beleive my car (i call him 'kit') once it saw you behind me, it actually put itself in reverse and rammed you....and althought there was 0 traction out there it some how found a way to build up enough speed to actually ram your car up the bank....on 2 wheels to top it off, I only have 62 HP....but lil 'kit' pulled it off..
hahahah
remember 'I'm watching u'
it has been 5 weeks I may consider tractionizing my only 2 tires, you are going down. hahaha

Thanks for the offer - but as a TAC member it's time for my volunteer to help out session.
Maybe they'll let me be the "Purple Flag Police" ;)

I'm not that crazy about the purple flags either(makes me think there's a jousting competition about to begin or something)but that pic is proof something needs to keep that to a min.
Lisa your dad is a master at running the banks without actually touching the bank, the other guys that simply hold the throttle open and bounce along them are another matter.
I think simply black flagging serious bank basher's will slow it down as well.;)

ken might be good at just running around without touching them...but Perry seems to have the "hold er WOT, and giver" method taken care of!!!!
It's almost fun to throw a 4wd car sideways, and put the back bumper into the bank and use it as a berm...however after about 3 corners of holding it WOT it get's boring
oh yeah perry..take about 300 lbs of balast off that civic and it'll turn with no problem

Could you please post or send me the pictures.
