I have not really studied the new regulations but from what I can tell a point has been taken away from my car (from 8 to 7) if I am to compete in CSS1 again. This would mean I have to take a performance part off my car to compete in CSS1. Am I correct in this ?

Actually i think you going to like what i'm about to tell you....
Brent, your car is in C3 not C2 like last season, thus you've gained 3 points. Go Wild!!!
I believe this was done becuase they have moved several of the C1 cars into C2 and that is why CSS1 from C2 gets less points to work with for this year.
Dave, does this sound about right?

As far as I can see Brent you are correct. It seems that 2 things have happened here. 1 point has been removed from C2 to CSS1, and the horsepower weighting has been raised for C class.
The hp weighting has allowed most of the Civics and some Neons to move down to C3, presumably to get away from the Miatas (just my guess based on discussions from last year). It has also moved some higher hp cars down to C2 as Chris notes. At the same time even higher hp cars such as the Acura RSX T-S have moved into C1.
Unfortunately in addressing the Civic issue a problem has been created for C2 cars from last year in that it effectively increases their disadvantage when competing against C1 cars in CSS1. For example a Miata with 140 hp is now competing against 195 or 200 hp+ cars with a higher handling index with only 4 points advantage.
he he..welcome to my battle for the last 3 years...
those type r's are very quick..

Brad, so they totally rearranged 3 stock classes and 2 superstock classes rather than move the new (99-up?) miatas to C1 or CSS2. I guess this is why you are buying a new miata? Good choice, if you want to compete in C class it's either a new miata or a typeR.
Adam, 3 years eh? I'm sure any problems will be addressed next year.
So, for me to race against the same cars as last season that beat me by up to 3 seconds, I will have to take the header of my car. That sounds fair, how much do I have to pay for this, $95.00?
I would like to take this time to thank everyone involved in the new regulations for hard work and good effort.

Actually the Miatas haven't changed at all. The current one has 142 hp vs 140 for the 99, but weighs more, and is still more or less where it was before. It is the other cars around it that have changed. Basically the hp weighting change for C2 has dropped the cars with less hp down to C3, and dropped some of the higher hp cars (i.e. early Integra GSRs) from C1 to C2.

Sorry Brent, in my previous note I should have said that the last part of your message is correct. The new hp weighting has effectively made your base class C2 more competitive by raising the range of hp allowed (and your car therefore relatively less competitive), and then in addition taken away a prep point in CSS1 as well. A double whammy.
As I remember you were at the prep point limit last year, so you will have to take something off to stay in CSS1, or move to CSP. So your are exactly correct - your car is effectively less competitive than it was last year against the Type Rs, and now the 200 hp RSX Type S as well.

Welcome to the black hole that is the C2 root class. I want to be competitive as much as the next guy. I like being challenged and winning. But, to be competitive you need either the right car (Type R) or a car that starts out in the C3 class and lots of $$$$$ to bump it up to CSP.
I had to remove an item from my car last year in order to stay in my class. This year I don't have to do a thing. Instead I now have higher horsepower cars in my class to worry about and cars from the C3 group with extra points. My car will definitely not be competitive this year. It frustrated me at first but I've pretty much come to the realization that you know what, who cares.
Al Byrne posted something along the same vein on the HADA message board. I hope he doesn't mind but I will quote him here because I think it might be usefull for others to see just in case they're in a similar situation. As a matter of fact, I think I will print this out and put it on my dash so that when I get my ass handed to me at the track I will have something to read and get me back into my happy place. Here's what Al had to say about this whole thing...
Okay,
Musings and rambling thoughts on this prep point deal.
I have decided to build my car the way i see fit.Not going to worry about poly bushings costing a point .....my car my way.
I am involved in this sport to have fun and eventually build a kick ass race car.If an extra point here or there means i move up a class then that is the class i run.I have way too much money invested in my car to let rule makers decide my modifications.(no offence CCC guys)
I am happy now.

I still don't understand C1, as i see, it's under populated and they just moved a bunch of cars outta the class. Also, i don't know of any new cars to come on the market in the next 3 years that will run in this class besides the acura RSX type R(which is about a secound a lap faster then the current generation).
Personally i think they reworked the C family in the oposite direction to what would have made a little more sense.
C3 cars did need another point, but we did not need 92-95 civic hb's and a few other cars.
It seems they just require a little tweaking. Hopefully in time we can get this sorted out. I'm sure the CCC will look over all the input you give them and consider changes for next season.
