helmet requirements

I'm looking for clarification on this. If a closed top car is equipped with a roll bar, not a roll cage, is the driver required to use an SA rated helmet or is a SNELL M rating OK ?

Here's what our 2005 Solo 1 rulebook WILL say on the matter:
2.0.2 A Snell 95M or newer M-rated helmet is acceptable for all classes, provided the car is not equipped with a roll cage or non-DOT (Department of Transportation) racing tires (see .4 and .5, below). Equivalent FIA-rated helmets are also approved.

So the answer is yes, you can use an M-rated helmet for a car with a roll bar, not a roll cage.
