A solo-2 forum will open up here along with a HADA one as soon as I get two minutes to rub together.

Frank et al;
The CASC-OR Solo II rules are now posted on the SoloOntario web site.

I noticed the Protege 2.0L was missing from classifications...
What category is it in?

Nice. Another good bedtime reading over the weekend to digest all of those
I notice that M3 is being classified in A1 in Solo2 (highest class) and B1 in Solo1. I have always thought it's the other way around as the car is more suited for higher speed course. No? I just got the car not long ago so I might under estimate its potential in the autoX.
S2k is up there as well. One of the smallest cars up there with half the # of the cylinders than some cars there. I guess that somewhat proves how fast this roadster can be.
roooo, if your car is not classified for Solo 2 in the new rulebook (ie. 2.0L Protege) what you need to do is send a proposal via e-mail to the Solo 2 Director (rsmith@bfmni.com) explaining which class you think your car should be in and why. Have a look at the classes and decide which one makes the most sense based on the performance potential of your car. If you're not comfortable proposing a specific class for your car because you have no Solo 2 experience, your car will be classified by Solo 2 Officials at the first Solo 2 event you show up at.

Frank: The E36 M3 is really a track car. Comparitavely it's not much of a Solo 2 car. IMO anyhow, and I've some decent amount of experience in both, doing both.
Some reasons I would attribute to that is
- 1st gear is pathetically short, tooo many shifts in autoX
- The car does not translate road feel very good, something I think is essentialy in AutoX, you never really know where the limit is if you can't feel the limit
- The car is very forgiving so you could be really over the cars effective limit and not really realize it (this comes back to the lack of translating road feel back to the driver).
- It's heavy too so theres more to toss around, at slower speeds it should be a slower car. (not sure what my basis is there, but it sounds right to me) :)
As for the classification issue, the Solo 2 director should be better to answer your question, but I can give it a shot...
In solo, the classes are family based. So the M3 and Integra Type R are in the same class family as the 3 series BMW and the other Integras. And ultimately it's not where they should be from a performance standpoint. The M3 is a High Performance car, IMO, and should be in the High Performance family. I'd say it's an A2 car. At least, I think it performs comparibly to A2 cars.
Then again, it's tough to look at that car and call it a sports car. Like sure it's a sporty car, but not like a two seater turbo, or a roadster, or a Corvette. It's orients aren't as purposeful as most of the cars in A family. Firebirds, Mustangs, Cameros and Corvettes were never intended to cart the family around or tour across the country in.
In Solo 2, the cars are put whereever they fit best in terms of performance (at least, that's my impression). There is no family issue binding a car to a specific class.

It just seems funny that the Mini Cooper and Cooper S managed to make it into the classifications but the Protege 2.0L (including Protege5 and MP3) did not.
I suppose it should be in B/1 as the 1.8L is in B/2 ... ?
roooo, we've got hundreds of cars to classify so I'm not surprised one slipped through the cracks. We haven't had any 2.0L Proteges compete yet, so there hasn't been a need to add them to the spreadsheet. Of course we haven't had any MINI's compete yet either, but since the guy managing the spreadsheet is a certified BMW whore it's not too surprising that the Bimmer-built MINI snuck into the system :)

If you read the car classifcations carefully.... the mini listed is NOT a new BMW mini it is the original Austin Mini.
The majority of the new cars have yet to be classified. As soon as a comittee can agree on with classes the new cars should be put in, they will be placed and a bulletin will be issued with all the specifics.

I think DaveP has forgotten that this discussion is about the Solo II classifications, not Solo I! Perry distributed the new rulebook at the last Solo I Committee meeting and showed off the 'back to back' format the Solo I and Solo II rules are printed in ... perhaps DaveP was reading his copy whilst hanging upside down :D
The CCC has nothing to do with the Solo II classes since the Ctee was struck by the Solo I dictator, Perry.
The 2.0l Protege did indeed make it into the Solo I rules, the Protege5 would count as "Mazda Protege 99+" in C3 and the MP3 as "Mazda Protege MP3 01+" in C2!
I'm sure that the hard-working powers that be in Solo II will have a new system for everyone sometime, but in the meantime we'll have to wait until the official bulletins come out...
Interestingly enough, in the SCCA the "G Stock" Solo II class has BMW 3 Series, Type Rs, WRXs, Audi TTs, & Eclipse/Talons all running together.
as usual Chris aka Bimmer Whore is right. Must get tiring be so damn on the ball all the time...sheesh
Hmmm, maybe we should just promote Chris to Solo 1 Dictator? Did I ever tell you the 'Little Rascals' spelling B joke, where Buckwheat has to use the word 'dictate' in a sentence?
I'm soooooo ready for a track day!
