I heard on the news this morning that NASCAR is looking to run in Canada, most likely with the Busch series at a road course! Supposedly a meeting is being held in the next couple of days discussing Toronto or Montreal. Just think, Touring or Ontario Challenge as a support race.........................................

NASCAR & OWR (CART) don't mix.Thats why CASCAR won't be at the Edmonton race.
Too bad for the paying spectators.
Big business,big money,bigger egos...
who wins?

But Scott the Cascar guys have run quite successfully in Toronto on the OWR/CART/???? Molson/Coors Indy weekend before, maybe it is the west didn't offer enough $$$ also maybe it is the NASCAR connection now with CASCAR, but then NASCAR ran the trucks with OWR/CART last year at Las Vegas, granted it wasn't the best show but they still ran together

My guess is the tie in NASCAR has with the IRL (Indy 500 & Brickyard 400) precludes them from playing with OWR/CART/CHAMP.
IRL is looking to take the Toronto & Montreal dates for themselves (if or when they become available) and having a NASCAR Busch or truck series on the card will sell tickets and TV.
The trenches have been dug in this war and this may be the year the big fight starts.

I have some ties to the France family and I can confirm that they have been talking about using the new CASCAR/NASCAR marketing ties to see if some dates around the Molson Indy Toronto could be worked out. They are hoping to get back-to-back dates CART then NASCAR or NASCAR then CART. At this stage it is very early in discussions, but Ontario and Alberta are some of the largest markets of interest right now (stock car racing in BC isn't that big...).

What the REAL question should be is, when is Don Panoz going to invest some REAL money in Mosport and make the facilities reflect the world-class course that it is?

Thoughts?

Well the track is and paddock. It will take 3 weeks to put in seats for 100,000 in a facility that could hold 200,000 and at $150 a pop, well I won't sneeze.

BUT what I would love to see is a 2km (1.5 mile) D shaped oval built say somewhere near the 401 and Hurontonia Blvd in Mississagua. Would attract a few people. The land is there.

I think the property value woud kill that idea before it ever got tabled, not to mention the countless other issues with trying to build any tracks within the GTA.

Alec Pinsonneault (AP Peformance) had been trying to build a track near Chatham for years though. The final spike in the coffin for it was that the government wanted him to pay for a new off ramp from the 401 to handle the potential traffic. Ugh! Politicians I tell ya!

I think the best circle track faciity that we may have in Canada to accomodate this type of event would be something like Sanair in Quebec. Just add more seating, beef up the paddock, turn the drag strip into an landing strip for the 'Nascar Airforce', widen all the roadways, and voila! You're there man! Seriously though, the track itself would be different for the drivers and is large enough to accomodate a large fan base.

The latest they are discussing with Mosport. They have been out to look at the track and are scheduled to go out and take another look when some more snow melts.
