Anyone need some go-kart action to prepare for the new season? I am a newbie at this sport and I want to get as much seat time as possible (go-kart or *real* car ;))

Me and couple guys try to organize a 2hr enduro event at ProKarts (http://www.prokart.ca) at the end of this month.

Date: Sat. Mar 30th, 2002
Time: 3:30pm - 5:30pm
Cost: $50 for 2 hours of enduro racing.

We'll need 16 drivers signed up before the track is booked (we have 9 right now), and total of 24 drivers needed.

Format is as follows:

- 10 min practice/qualifying session for each driver (8 drivers on track at a time)
- 8 teams of 3 drivers each. Team members will be assigned handicapped style (slowest with fastest, etc...).
- 1.5 hr enduro race with mandatory driver changes at every 8-10min intervals. It'll be up to the team to select the next driver.

Anyone? Please sign up here or email me for more information. :)

Thanks.

I'd love to but with Easter that weekend it's tough to get out of family obligations :(

BTW, the TEUTONIC site is pretty cool. I like it. I think I will add it to my list of message boards to check.

Yeah i agree with Cauis,
The Teutonic site is worth a look.A few of the people posting there have expressed an interest in running Solo this year.Come on out guys and get involved in some safe controlled track time!

Thanks for the compliments, guys. :)

Safe controlled track time is what we have been preached for quite a while. Most of us try to participate in every BMW Club’s driving school and some of us are thinking doing Solo One this year. We also hosted some safe and controlled lapping days at Shannonville last year and we are thinking doing some more this year. (How can we have enough track time by just going to the track 3/4 times a year?? )

The thing holding us (me at least) back before was we didn’t think we were good/fast enough (I still suck though and you will see :D ). When it comes to time yourself, it is even harder to drive at your own pace and not to push the car. If you push the car over your limit, the most unwanted accident will happen. That is my worst fear. However, this year, I will *try* really hard to just be a rookie and drive at my own pace . I am pretty sure I will learn a lot from you guys!!!

Alex,
If you have run the BMW schools you should have no problem making the transfer to Solo 1.The difference being you are timied in Solo 1.The tracks we run during events are quite tame compared to running the big track at Mosport. If you are interested make sure you come out to the Solo open house in April.

Forgot to mention Alex,
At first you just want to be a part of the action.Next you realise you are the action!
So be it!

Teuton:
I had similar reservations before I started. But it didn't take long for me to realize that it was going to take some time (getting a Solo 2 in and driving Mosport during the BMW school helped). I suppose if I went out there and didn't realize where I was slow, or why I was slow, I'd feel bad, embarrassed, but since I was able to realize this isn't something you're good at overnight, I was able to have fun with it. So instead of driving on the edge of adhesion, I drove on the edge of my ability, what I was comfortable with. And if you look at my Solo 1 "record" you'll see it's nothing to write home about. Of course, I'm being hard on myself, but realistic as well. I've been told I did well. And I was in an underpopulated class, with one of the fastest guys in the series kicking my ass every few weeks, and driving 3 different cars on 5 different tracks doesn't help much. Need seat time, lots of it. Use lapping days to try something new (not all cars go around the track the same) and Solo 1 events to see if you're getting better. As long as you're getting better, you should be happy. Even if you're not, I can't imagine a better way to spend some summer days. :)

The Series can be considered hardly competitive and very competitive. I think it's all about the attitude you take with you. Be realistic and drive within your limits and you'll have a ball of fun I'm sure.

I'll be doing all the BMW schools this year, and all the Solo I events that don't conflict with family activities (12 out of 14 events?).

The schools gave me the impression that I was quick in the car, but never knew how quick. All you can do is see who you pass, and who passes you - then check out their mods to see if they should be passing you!

The great thing about Solo I is that it is much safer than the big track at Mosport, and you can see how your speeds not only compare with the other cars/drivers, but also how basic things you do affect your lap times.

It gets interesting when you experiment with various lines, braking points, tire presures, and suspension setups!

Teuton, if you're after some karting action HADA is hosting a 3 hour enduro event at ProKart on March 24th from 3-6pm. I think we've still got room for a few more drivers (we'll assign you to a team if you don't have 2-3 friends that want to form a team with you), so if you want to sign up drop our Competition Director an e-mail at haniforama@yahoo.com and he can tell you more about our registration. Cost is $150 per team, so $37.50/driver with a team of 4 (which is standard for a 3 hour enduro, but you can go with as few as 2 drivers if you really want to maximize your seat time).

Cheers,
Dave

Glad you enjoyed the event, Alex! We've got a 2 hour mini-enduro coming up on April 17th, so if you want to join us for some more karting action just drop Hanif another e-mail at haniforama@yahoo.com I'm sure we've got room to accomodate of few of the Teutonic boys!

Cheers,
Dave
