View Full Version : How much stripping...

...is allowed in S, SS1 and SS2 with the installation of 6pt cage or 4pt half cage (-2 points).

Under 6.3 Body & Trim:
The negative points calimed for roll-over protection...can only be used to offset points claimed under Body & Trim, section 6.3.1-6.3.7

and under 6.3.6 (1 point)
modified interior trim, .... dash, console, headliner,.....and any other interior body panels.

So, does that mean if I have a rollover protection installed in my car (-2 points), I get to strip all the interior trims as I like (1 point).

yes Frank, that's exactly what it means. With the prep points you gain by adding rollover protection you can choose to offset the associated weight gain by lightening your car as you see fit. Most competitors who install a full rollcage gut the interior entirely for 1 point, although removal of the front passenger seat costs an addition point. Other common lightening tactics include the use of lightweight body panels (fiberglass or carbon fiber for example), lighter lexan windows, removal of bumper supports, and so on. You can also gain a prep point by adding a fire extinguisher should you find yourself wanting an additional prep point to apply to the 'Body & Trim' section of the rulebook.

Best of luck with your car's weight loss program :) Bear in mind, you car will be A LOT louder without all the sound deadening the interior provides. Driving my gutted Civic is a bit like being inside a metal drum. Every sound is magnified and pounds around inside the car. It's fun until my eardrums start to bleed ;)

Hell with that, I'm keeping the interior in. I drive my car to Tim Horton's still, and I know exactly what you mean by loud having been in Corcoran's car. I might hit the bumper supports and yank the passenger seat now and then, though.

IMHO, ripping the interior out of your car is a drastic step if you intend to continue driving it on the street.

thanks for the reply.

So this combo of 'roll-over protection' + 'gutted interior' is permitted in all classes including Stock class?

yes, you're allowed to do this in Stock class and up. The prep points you're awarded for putting in rollover protection and fire extinguisher are there to both offset weight gain associated with adding a cage and to motivate people to make their cars safer for track use.

Sorry Dave,

but paragraph 5.11.8 of the rules, dealing with Authorized Mods for Stock class, clearly states that although Roll-Over protection may be added, "The interior trim & seats may be modified only to the extent necessary to facilitate the addition."

There is no way that 'gutting the interior' counts here!

Note that the Prep Point Schedule only applies to Super Stock 1, Super Stock 2 & Prepared levels!

The level of mods authorized in Stock is strictly defined by the rules sections 5.10 through 5.14...

Woopsee, sorry about the oversight Frank! Christian is correct...I guess that's what I get for answer questions from memory rather than by actually looking at the rulebook first. Duh...

Thanks for catching the error Chris, I would have felt like a gigantic boob if Frank had shown up with a gutted Stock class car and been told he'd have to run in SuperStock. Ugh!

Ex. I add a cage and am allowed -3 points. I replace the stock seats with Sparco race seats at a cost of 2 points.

However, since replacement with race seats is not allowed in stock class, I am moved to SS2 where seats are free.

Extrapolating one more time, since seats are free in SS, why are they listed as costing a point? This is a situation similar to adding a cold air filter - not allowed in Stock, free in SS, and not mentioned in the prep point schedule.
