Let's just cheer a little for the Solo II trained drivers that not only won their class (well it was a class of one) but finished 2nd overall in last weekend's race event at Mosport International Raceway.
Yep - Gunter Schmidt, Peter Carpenko and Robb Smith all started their driving careers at Solo II events.
The number 36 VW Corrado ran strong and hard all weekend posting a fast race lap only 1/10 of a second off the fastest lap of 1:32.0 set by a Turbo 944 that interestingly enough set the fast lap when chasing me in the Corrado.
Whoever says Solo II is not a firm foundation for further motorsport adventures is way off the mark.
The statement - "A good Solo II competitor will make a good road race driver but a good road race driver will not necessarily make a good Solo II driver" is right on the money.
Hope all the regional competitors have a great time at the first event hosted by St Lac. Wish I could be there. It's always a great event and could be thought of as the Daytona/Monaco event of the regional Solo II world.
