Ok guys, here's the steal of the week. We just picked up a new line of product, you may have heard of them, Tekniq Autosport (http://www.tekniqauto.com/CDN/snapoff/snapoff.htm). They have steering wheels, shift knobs, shifter boots, floormats, etc. But the also have a sweet quick release system for steering wheels. For more info in the system, check out this (http://www.tekniqauto.com/CDN/snapoff/snapoff.htm) page.

So, here's the deal. If we get less than five orders, the price will be as follows (price, as always, is tax inc. in Canadian dollars)
Tekniq Street Snap off system $168
Momo Street Snap off system $189
Hub adaptor (required for street) $70
Race Snap off system $136
Race Snap off system extra wheel component $73
Hub adaptor and Momo-to-Tekniq adaptor (required for race) $100

Between 5 and 10 orders:
Tekniq Street Snap off system $143
Momo Street Snap off system $161
Hub adaptor (required for street) $60
Race Snap off system $116
Race Snap off system extra wheel component $60
Hub adaptor and Momo-to-Tekniq adaptor (required for race) $85

More than 20 orders:
Tekniq Street Snap off system $138
Momo Street Snap off system $155
Hub adaptor (required for street) $57
Race Snap off system $112
Race Snap off system extra wheel component $57
Hub adaptor and Momo-to-Tekniq adaptor (required for race) $82

So, post here or email me at tom@redpepperracing.com to let me know if you are seriously interested, or would like more information. If you see anything else you like on the site, let me know.

We don't have any set time limit on the order, but I'd like to do it in the next few weeks.

For the Street system, you need to get one of their hubs, and you can then bolt a Momo/Sparco wheel to the Snap-off system, and the snap-off to the Tekniq hub. For the race system, same deal, except you need an adapter from the race snap-off to the Momo wheel. Confused? You won't be after the next episode of Soap.

So ... uhhh ... which version would fit a Sparco wheel (street application) ? :o

OK .. I did a bit more reading on their website and saw the bit about Sparco/Momo using the same bolt patterns.

Now the question is .. do they make a version of that for a 3rd gen Mazda Protege? (Specifically Protege5).

I will find out and let you know.

I just spoke to them, and they do not have a specific application for the Protege5. Is the steering column/wheel mounting the same as any other Mazda's? I'm not familiar with them, so I don't want to guess. If it is the same as another model, they may have an application that will work, they've just never had anyone ask about the Protege5 before.

Here are the applications I know will work:

Honda - most
Acura - most
BMW - 94 325
VW - most
Audi - A4

BTW, it looks like we are at the 5+ discount level so the price for an adaptor and street system would be $221, tax in, plus shipping.

Tom: Did you check on mine to make sure you can get the proper hub for the MR2 (1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo)?

No, I wasn't sure which vehicle you wanted it for. I'm going to be speaking with Tekniq again tomorrow, I'll double-check then.

The Protege5 steering setup should be the same as any other Protege after 99.. I don't think there's anything special about it since the Protege5 is exactly the same as the Protege ES except for the body styling and maybe some slight suspension differences.

If it ends up that it will fit I may have more people who are interested in buying (about 3 others currently).

I will be calling them again today, so I will ask about that. Any other vehicles that you may know of that share the same setup?

Saw your post on the protegeclub forum ... was that in regards to this thread?

I don't know of any similarities between the Protege hub and any other cars, but I do have the Protege workshop manual if that could be of any use to try looking up measurements or whatnot.

Did you end up getting hold of anyone at Tekniq or Corksport?

Yup, that was about your question. So it seems that the 99+ RX-7 and Miata use the same setup, the question is now around the cruise control and airbag. Is your cruise control on the wheel?

I spoke to Tekniq and they hadn't found out anything as of Friday, I'll speak to them again today. I haven't got ahold of Corksport yet.

Cruise control is on the wheel, yeah.
1 master on/off button plus the other 2 or 3 others for speed control. I never use it though.

I am just as happy removing my airbag(s).
I would just disconnect them although that makes me nervous driving around with them installed but not connected, in case they somehow decided to deploy on their own .. It's actually quite easy to take them out.

I wouldn't mind one of those Mazdaspeed steering wheels either.
There is supposedly a shop in Richmond Hill that sells Mazdaspeed parts (Carvision Car Accessories ? ).

I just spoke with Corksport, and the 99+ Miata is the same, so I am waiting on a call from Tekniq on the Miata. Apparently there is some wiring that would need to be slightly modified, but physically it will work.

I will post on the protegeclub board as well.

Sweet. Well I can see the posibility of needing to remove the clockspring and maybe some of the other cruise control and/or airbag bits... so I'll take this as good news for now :)

Just found this on Miata.net: "Momo Wheel install"
http://www.miata.net/garage/momo/momowheel.htm

I suppose it may go something like that...

So I guess the obvious question now is do you want a snap-off system? I'm assuming they have the Miata as an application, especially if there is already a Momo application (they seem to be in lockstep there). I am awaiting a call back again from Tekniq on that issue.

Let me know.
