Allrighty... Given my braking woes at Shannonville I did a more thorough inspection of my braking system and noticed it was time to replace my master cylinder. Also I was finally able to source some race pads for my stock front calipers - Hawk Blues again - but 10x better than the Metal Masters I toasted during Event 2. The only down side to the Blues is that brake dust is just bad for the paint. Having said that, one look at the state of the paint and body work on my car says it's not a big problem. :p The new master cylinder makes a big difference and has shortened brake pedal travel significantly. :) I have also ordered some suspension bits that will bump me up to GT3 if I decide to install them this season.

Anyone else make some changes? Adam I know you had a shopping list of stuff to do to the car to counter the rampant Honda weaselage... ;)

yes ...we must combat the rampant honda weaselage....

i say this....go to kodiak buy some 17x11 custom rims and shod the car with 315mm R tires.. all for 2 PIPS..... you wont get a better bang for the buck...

and.... lighten the car...

and put some coilovers on...

they must be punished !!!

17x11, uh sure... I'd calculate the offset at -16 to accomodate the rim without affecting the suspension... That will make the tires protrude by almost 100mm (4 inches imperial)!

To lighten the car I have to lighten the driver... :o I'll save that mod for next season - lipo suction is waaayy too expensive! :D

Coilovers are in transit - GT3 here I come.

Adam is a slow learner, but I would have thought Pierre clever enough to know that it's better to join them (the Honda weasels) than to attempt uselessly to resist their domination.

As the former head Honda weasel, I have replaced my master cylinder and booster and bought some "cheater" tires to combat the Atkins 710-shod Rustang :) If I have time to heat cycle them, the cheater tires may make an appearance at the DDT this weekend, though I'd like to keep them in prime condition for the Nationals in September where I WILL crush all pretenders in SGT3! Mwaaahaaaahaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Ur, yeah...

I'm adding a trailer hitch and a functional alternator. Not really go-fast mods, but sometimes just going is improvement enough.

Dave, as you know I'm keeping my Honda weaselage options open with the RSX - unless I can find a suitable RWD alternative - say a BMW or perhaps an RX7. But as long as my new Nissan blood flows I will do what I can to help Adam punish the Honda horde... Vive la Résistance! :p

he he.... i just dropped about 50lbs off my car this weekend, and put on a fresh set of front brake pads..and just ordered a nice new set of

245/45/16 hoosier rs04 R tires.... so that i too can be a weasel....though these will be back up tires..in case i cant beat them fair and square on some 225 yok's that i have on my other set of rims :) kinda like...

"weaselage insurance"

and dialed my alignment back to what it should be after my alignment mishap

ha ha ha ha.........

my last thing to do if being beaten...... drop the dyno plot...and advance my timing up 3-4 degrees to get a few more hp....then i wil be classed in gt3 straight up

I left my car alone and worked on my skills.

4 SOLO2's later, I'm crispy-fried.

Seat time boyz... the cheapest way to increase your speed.

What!??? That's like admitting it isn't entirely the car's fault! Heresy... :p

I prepared at the first two events by wearing in my stock parts a little more. :)

Adam, Yoks? Shame you will be punished by the Hondas. Bring out the Hoosiers or stop you smack talk, because you will be disappointed.

Update:

I forgot to mention that I'm installing a new stage 2 clutch (stock flywheel unfortunately) and one of my spare trannys into the car this week... :o Dang! I'm running out of excuses. :)

I'm planning on running a functioning front suspension this time. Also replaced my light, seat hugging Sparcos with heavy JDM ITR seats and a 4-point harness. I know that's sounds slower and it probably is. Also hoping to find time to do a proper ailgnment this time instead of the string method. :)

With good pads, it's near impossible to fade the 4pot 300ZX caliper setup (excluding certain turbocharged 240's). One of the best mods I did to the 240.

Wish is was coming this weekend... I had pre-booked some months ago for a rock climbing weekend instead.

Good luck gents... May the Nissan's prevail!

Yeah I agree. I had Z32 calipers in mind earlier this season but before I found a set of those, I bought some old school Enkei mesh rims (a set of 8) at a ridiculously low price. When I test fitted them to a Z32 setup I found that the spokes were hitting the outside edge of the caliper... :( Unfortunately my budget did not allow me to upgrade the calipers and all 8 wheels or do a five lug conversion to fit my current RSX race wheels (but with shitty offset for the 240SX).

Rock climbing eh? Cool. I tried that once and it's a real thrill, especially rappelling back down the cliff face.

Go Nissan!

For this weekend my only trick is to challenge myself to be a better driver, i really hope it works

For the next event watch out.....Hoos-eir-dady ;)

one small step closer to optimization....

Rampant weaselage indeed...

Side note: Krispy did you figure out how to configure the Aim timers to recognize intermediate lap times with our similar beacons? I'm bringing a tripod for my beacon this weekend so let's hookup and figure it out (or let me know how it works).

Did you try using some wheel spacers?

Go Nissan!

You can do what I did... use the 26mm rotor width version from the NA Z32 and machine the Nissan logo off the front of the calipers. I was able to fit the OEM 7 spoke alloy wheels as well as an aftermarket set of wheels this way.

Good luck this weekend!

I'll be running some crappier, but smaller diameter tires, and a lower ride height. So I'll continue to get owned in GT2.

Carguy

Did you try using some wheel spacers?

Yes I did. But it turns out I needed to use 20mm spacers to get the correct clearance with the 30mm calipers and I would have had to take some PIPS for protruding wheels. I could have gone with the 26mm calipers and perhaps not taken the PIPS but I didn't like the performance compromise. Anyways I prefered a solution that did not involve filing down the calipers.

As it is now all I really need are race pads with the stock calipers - or so I've been told. I'll see how things go at the DDT this weekend. Having said that I have a line on some rebuilt AP Racing 4-pot calipers for next season that will cost me less than half of a new set. I'm also hunting for lighter set of wheels and I'll be making sure they have good caliper clearance.

To prepared for this weekends Solo 1 weekend at the DDT track I have done the following:
* Modified then installed a monster rear sway bar made for 3000+ lb VWs on my 1880 lb Insight :D
* Competed in 5 solo 2s (one of them was actually on the DDT track ;) )
* I will no longer use my 235/45R13 Kumho Rs since they are actually old, hard, and dead (but not corded yet). Instead I will upgrade to my last year's 185/60R13 RA1 on 8lb VX rims. These tires actually still provide much more grip then my monster wide kumhos. These lighter wheels will reduce my unsprung weigh by a total of 44 lbs.

Now I just have to work on learning the lines at the tracks and getting more comfortable driving at 100% like I am on autoslaloms....

With all the money you will save in fuel you can buy R-compounds :p

It's always better in T5 because:
A) our brakes last longer
B) we are on the track a few seconds longer then everyone else! ;)

our brakes last longer cuz we dont use them :D let off gas and turn.

i dunno i wasnt in T4 by choice, thats just where my car ended up being, but i guess its for the best, better to learn in a shitbox than a super car.

Changing trany and diff. fluids to Royal Purple and buying some R-compounds (Toyo RA-1 or Yoko A048's), hopefully they will keep me on the track :D .

Welp,

I won't be making it to this race weekend. The clutch and flywheel finally arrived today. That leaves tonight, tommorrow night and the night after to get the flywheel off, the pilot bearing replaced, the release bearing replaced. All seals on the tranny replaced, and reinstall the transmission and break in the clutch.

On a side note I still have no brake rotors (I should've just bought them from the dealership, welcome to penny pinching 101 and not getting parts). JRP has let me down again on the rear pads for my rx7. Should've just dished out the money for the GS3 pads or some form of Hawk pads (again welcome to penny pinching 101). How many times can one person say tommorrow, tommorrow. Sounded like me when the prof was asking me where my assignments were a year ago.

managed to get a front end and contingency spsonroship via spec clutch and also with JRP. Too bad I won't be doing any advertisements for them without a running car.

Oh and I have now fully utilized 79.9%. before I only had a 19 lbs flywheel. this one is 8.8 lbs without the counter weight. The only other area left to maximize is to buy a pair of custom made 16x8+30mm offset front wheel and a pair of 16x9 + 35 mm offset rear wheel. Hoosier 245/45/16 and 275/40/16 rear tire. (which budget will never allow).
