what do spring spacers (those $5 rubber thingies at crappy tire) cost in terms of PIPS, if anything at all?

you mean the ones that stop the springs from making noise? they are free :)

unless of course you are increaseing spring rates :)

I think he means the spacers that are meant to stiffen the spring rate by blocking spring compression in the spacer locations. I would advise against such a mod since you be taking 4 pips for very little spring rate increase. The 4 pips would be a disadvantage if they bumped you up a class.

well in my case i'm doing it purely for raising the car, i have no clue if it actualy increases the spring rates.

It raises the spring rate, since you are decreasing the number of active coils. Effectively, you are removing an amount of spring material from the flexing procedure.

What kind of car, and why does it need to be raised up? Surely there are other ways to do this.

I really cannot see an increase in performance by raising up the car (yes, I know it's a VW, and I've read the thread on votex). With stock springs, the body roll will defeat any kind of camber you'll get from raising the car ...

Scotch:

i asked Pyce about it and he said that he never tried something like this, nor did he know how a car might react and encouraged me to try it out.

but since i'll get hit with 4 pips for it maybe i'll just wait for proper springs
