THe following is a jpg that shows what is allowed and what is not allowed as per the CASC-OR and CAC Solo 2 Rule Books......
This WILL end the debate on tires protruding past the fender lips.

Wouldn't it be better to reference the "end of tread" indicator moulded on tires. If somebody is using 710's there is no tread block or grooves, only the indicator.
From the diagram, I assume it's a tangent point on the shoulder?

This clarification rocks! does the region have the means to do the measurement should a protest be made?

Are we to assume that the edge of the 710 is where the "tread" and sidewall come to a point?

The drawing shows that the "edge of the tread" is the point at which a 45 degree line would intersect the tire.
If that lines up or not with the "edge of the tread" is irrelevant IMO.

That is exactly the way I interpret the rule.

In the case of the 710's the edge, when they are brand new is the line. Once they are rounded off due to tire rollover wear, then that point may be different.
A simple cheesy little adjustable square (the ones with the 45degree angle on it) would work to take measurements. It would be long and straight enough to determine the flat portion of the tire and the 45 degree angle to use as the tangent..... I may have a spare one around the house somewhere!

I was just thinking that. So that means some tire fitements may be illegal when the tires are new. But would become legal once they've been worn down a bit.

Quite possibly.

Quite possibly.
This was the case with Victoracers with 38 offset on the Prelude, but fortunately the definition back then was based on the "rolling through chalk" test which I passed with no trouble.

yeah I would rock 225/50/14 v710s if we had the roll through chaulk test still ... and they would look like they were sticking out .. but would pass... :p

Interesting, the bigger the radius the better it is. Calls for some experimentation.
What will air pressure do here? Test at 5 psi?

I believe the rule states (off the top of my head correct me if I'm wrong) minimum 20 PSI Maximum is the tire's rated maximum pressure as stated ont he side wall

[duck&run] Why is there STILL debate on this issue? :p [/duck&run]
