what 5 foot rut?

There was a section to the rear that had some trenches excavated to run some wiring for lightpoles I believe. When it was backfilled something did not go right since the entire trench had sunk about a foot I would say. This resulted in a 5 foot (aprox.) rut that went across the course. As a result we had alot of porpoising. If you look at the solo II video from 2003 that Marshall put together you can see some of what happend. The car (FWD) would lift its front tire then rear then front again. :(

I have no idea what rut you are talking about! Are you sure you are thinking of the right venue?
Last year we hosted this event at Kawartha Downs racetrack slots, there was a gravel section that was NOT on the course that you DID have to cross to stage before your run, certainly not a rut, it was approx. 18" across. During the day someone placed some wood over it to prevent gravel sticking to tires.
I can't think of any places in the lot we are using this year where there has been any excavating, or back-fill-errors.

yeah last year's gravel thing I remember I placed the wood there...

I don't remember a rut in 2003...

I have video on tape that better shows the rut but currently can't find it. If you examine this video of Marshall running and watch as he goes threw the back sections you will see his car bounce around. This is 2002 if I am not mistaken. We were there in 2003 and it was even worse. On a stock or softly sprung car it is not as bad so you could have not ntoiced.

Specifically noticeable at indexes:
25 sec. out of car
37.5 sec. out of car
1:08 in car
1:16 out of car

OK I see what you mean. I don't think it's anything like that now, I don't recall it being like that anymore anyway.
I will make efforts to avoid that spot so you don't bounce around.
