Hey all. I plan on attending the school and event @ Mosport Int'l on August 6th-7th. I think I have the classification figured out but I just want to make sure. My car is a 1989 Honda Civic CX, interior is stripped (except that driver seat is a Sparco racing seat & passenger seat remains installed), car is shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cups and aftermarket rims, cat is removed, full road race spec roll cage installed, fire extinguisher. I should be in Touring 3@ 49.1%. Thanks, any ammendment to my classing or comments or suggestions etc. etc. etc. are very welcome :D
Cheers
Does your CX have 70 hp (like the base '89 Civic in the U.S. market) or 92 hp? If it's the 70 hp engine, then your Starting PI is 35%, but if it's the 92 hp then your Starting PI is 48.7%. Curb weight is 1933 lbs, according to my source (Standard Catalog of Imported Cars, 1946-2002).
So depending on what your Starting PI is, it sounds like you've got a net of zero PIPs in the Body & Trim section (2 for the gutted interior but the cage offsets these), 1 PIP for the gutted cat, and beyond that I don't know. I assume the car has a coilover suspension on it for you to have arrived at a class of Touring 3 @ 49.1%. If you post or e-mail me a complete list of all mods made to the car, along with it's factory original curb weight and horsepower, I can get you an accurate classification.
Cheers,
Dave (Car Classification Committee dude)

Don't know what my HP is. All I know is the engine is a 1.5L SOHC 16 valve motor, Curb weight I do believe is 1933 as you said. only mods are cage, no cat, racing seat. Engine and suspension are completely stock

The Base (70 hp) civic had a 4 speed tranny the CX (92hp) had the 5 speed . That would be one way to tell.
Is it a former Honda/Michellin (sp?) car? those were, IIRC, the CX (92hp) model
again IIRC, the base had an 8 valve but I am sure that my old one had a valve cover that said 16V. but the memory goes from time to time ;)
Yeah, I believe the CX (Canadian version) does have the 92 hp 16 valve engine, so this would mean Oddball's car has a starting PI of 48.7%. Add 1 PIP to that for the cat removal and your car's PI goes up to 49.7%, which is maxed out in Touring 3.
FYI, the racing seat for the driver is a free mod under Section 5.10.6, but if you've also removed the rear seat then you'll have to declare it under Section 6.3.7 (1 PIP). The 2 PIPs you've declared for the gutted interior do not include the rear seat, unfortunately (Section 6.3.11). This has the effect of bumping your car up to Touring 2 with a final PI of 50.7%, so I would recommend you either put the stock driver's seat back in to save the required PIP to move back down to Touring 3, or you re-install the rear seat (which only ways a couple pounds anyway).

mines has a 5 speed. Not a former Honda/Michelin car but a former Honda Michelin Cage. Suspension is stock as I said (factory coilovers).

I don't have rear seats anymore (nor do I really want to put it in). So touring 2 it is. What class I'm in really doesn't matter to me so long as I get seat time, track time, learn something, and most importantly have a blast :D:D
Definitely the right attitude, Oddball :) You should do fine in Touring 2 anyway. Those EF Civics are good handling cars even on stock shocks and springs. Hope to see you at the track soon.
Cheers,
Dave

He, he just think if it was your wedding! After a full day of on-track fun you'll be both exhausted and high on adrenaline. That should make for an interesting wedding experience. ;) Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do... :)

unless you luck out and be in one of the two run groups that are not marshaling during the last run, and end up being the first of the last, that way you'll have at the very least 30 minuets of free time.
also if you end up being in a group that marshals during the last run, you can talk to the organizers and maybe they will let you run off earlier.

I probably would consider being late for my own wedding if the event was important enough ;) Although I wouldn't make it to the altar alive. My great Grandpa missed his own daughters wedding to race his power boat (he later won the championship that year).

Your in luck Oddball - no marshalling duties scheduled for participants.
